About this listen

In this erotic horror novel, a grisly murder in New York City's downtown meat-packing district leads hardboiled crime writer Caitlin McCullough into the depths of a secret sadomasochistic underground: a perverse playground for the rich and twisted, where anything goes and nothing is taboo. There, Caitlin must risk everything to find not only the truth surrounding the murder, but the dark truth hidden inside herself.

Critic reviews

"Christa Faust is a Veronica in a world of Betties. (Quentin Tarantino)
"Christa Faust is a fiercely original talent; undeniable and startling. Her enviable rise blends honesty, anarchist perception and a stunning voice that verges on poetry. With impolite intelligence, she uncovers beauty and finds profundity in the unthinkable." (Richard Christian Matheson)

I selected this audio book expecting, I guess, something a bit like Se7en. I always enjoy a darkly written 'Who dunnit' and I am I big fan of Stuart MacBride. This novel was nothing like that. The novel, although engagingly read (I did manage to finish it- just) was more like a soft porn fictional read about the Bondage underworld. Little emphasis was put on finding the killer of the murdered women mentioned at the start of the book. Instead the author follows the main character, Caitlin, as she discovers she is a Dominant and that she quite enjoys a bit of bondage even when some people get hurt. That just about sums it!
