A story worth reading. I really liked the characters. I read the book after this one, which made me purchase the first. Definitely a good choice.

Great start storytelling

Having already read the entire night angel trilogy, I was greatly anticipating this prelude, it perfectly ties up loose ends from the past, such as the rise of the mistress of pleasures and Durzo Blint's past lives and names as well as his training to be a wet boy by Scarred Wrabble. The story of Jorsin Alkestes is also played upon greatly giving you an insight into the mind and actions of the most powerful magician that ever lived. the way the story is retold by Durzo telling the young man of his life. A very punchy (lasting just over 2 hours) and worthy read or listen gripped me from start to finish, perfect for anyone who enjoys a fantasy novel.

I have loved this novella since I first read it. having it here too for only £2 is a no-brainer. A superbly written snippet of back story from my favourite trilogy. I bought it today and listened to it 3 times at work already. BUY IT NOW!!!!

Really enjoyed this book. great build up was a bit short but really enjoyable. the narration was ok., over all a 4.

Love the story, this series is very engaging, highly recommended book. The narrator's style doesn't suit it, in my opinion. His accentuation of every word kept fooling me into thinking that the sentence was finished, and his tone doesn't suit the dynamics of the story. On the other hand he does accents very well

Although I did not enjoy this book as much as the Night angel trilogy I did find it to be a very good listen. The book outlines a lot of things overlooked in the series and fills gaps in the timeline. a must read if you are a fan of the night angel series.
