About this listen
A paranoid schizophrenic has written the next great North American novel and psychiatrists are asking how he did it. Strangely his writing is offering the world unusual insight into the subjects of death, God, immortality, the meaning of life, where space leads, hope, and other mysterious unknowns, which he strangely somehow has insight into answering.
When the character Donald, who has the illness paranoid schizophrenia, gets committed to the high security forensic unit of the Nova Scotia Hospital, he has no idea that he's about to spend the next twenty-five years of his life there. As he struggles to keep hope alive, in the aftermath of a horrific mass shooting in his hometown, he finds himself confined to a cell on the forensic ward surrounded by notorious mass murderers and serial killers. There in this pernicious and depraved world he claims to receive mysterious clear thoughts, both on and off the page, that he insists is actually God speaking to him. As he listens to, and records, these mysterious schizophrenia experienced thoughts, he spends his time in his cell writing scenes of hilarious comedy and telling the story of his fascinating life spent growing up in small town Nova Scotia.
As Donald compiles his masterpiece of literature in his cell, it soon becomes strangely obvious that the unethical and breathtakingly beautiful thirty-something nurses of the unit: Kelly Marlowe, and Janet Blakely, have developed a mysterious unexplained attraction for the notorious mass murdering hypnotist Greggery Sneer. When the forensic ward begins to slip into a forbidden zone of solacious erotic behavior will the enormous, deranged mass murderer Carl Howler somehow get loose from his cage. If the maniac Carl ever does get loose, will he get his hands on the axe smuggled into the high security unit for the criminally insane.
