The performances are excellent, and the voices were easy on the ears, carried a lot of different emotions and nuances, did not seem to jar with the text, well paced, warm and intriguing.
The format of the audiobook was two very long tracks. This is fine for listening to the whole book in order, which I did first. However, I would have appreciated the capacity to skip about the stories, since it is a short story anthology, and in an anthology, I like to be able to open up the book and pick a story or two to read; not to feel I have to read/overload on the whole book (though sometimes that's nice too). This kind of reading experience is not really mimicked on the audiobook as far as I can work out - I had to lean on fast forward rather a lot to find my place, and keep a list of the short stories in the anthology. (I found the contents page on another website).
The individual stories were all really good. They were a very varied, high quality, imaginative, well written, erotic collection. There didn't seem to be a bad story in the bunch. Each story seemed to have some unusual feature whether it was the atmosphere, or the setting, or the characters involved (human, transformed or mythical), or the "action", or the plot itself. The stories were highly enjoyable, even when they were not my usual fare; I had only two (very brief) "ick" moments, which briefly disrupted my suspension of disbelief. The writing and performances drew me in and kept me listening - and it was full of pleasant surprises and erotic moments. I also laughed with surprise/delight at some of the more startling transformations (the bird, for example).
I look forward to future listens.
I don't know if there will be any further volumes of this kind, but I'd look forward to them. Similarly if any more specific anthologies were published.
