About this listen
Emergency landing. Uncharted planet. Erotic captivity of epic proportions. Right when Captain Alec Hamlin thinks it can’t get any crazier, his team is sold to their captors’ mighty sovereign. King Zercy of the Kríe. Ruler of the planet’s most formidable species. Man, is he imposing. So regal and larger than life. And way too savagely handsome for Alec’s liking. From the first moment he laid eyes on him, he knew the Kríe was trouble, knew he needed to steer clear of him at all costs. But when Zercy chooses Alec to be his personal pet, all plans to dodge the male fall by the wayside.
Alec is forced to spend each evening in the alluring king’s company, each night bound to the seductive king’s bed. Wholly at his mercy. Utterly defenseless, in his own mind and most especially his restless body. His struggle is real. Because the more Alec gets to know Zercy, the more he realizes two things. The Kríe king is damaged, unstable, not right, making him unpredictable and highly dangerous. But he is also innately kind beneath the raging storm that torments him. Kind and genuine, with a sad but beautiful soul. Something Alec fights with all he is, not to acknowledge. He can’t fall for Zercy. Zercy is the enemy. The captor of both Alec and his team. Which means Alec needs to get them out of there, before it’s too late. Before emotions overthrow logic and take control of the wheel. If only his body didn’t crave Zercy so fiercely, and his heart didn’t want him just as badly.
With Search and Rescue due any day, and Alec’s team getting antsy, Alec is forced to make a decision. He can’t have it both ways. Is he the captain of his men, bound to obligation, or is he a man in love with a Kríe?
Warning: erotic romance. Contains explicitly scorching gay sex with exotic and shamelessly kinky males of otherworldly descent.

Great story. Great performance.
I read the book before the audio was launched. The story is captivating, erotic, sweet, and funny at times. And the readers' performance is exceptional. I was totally emerged in it. I soo hope there will be a part 3 to it.

Surprisingly enjoyable
I got into this story more than I expected, as I thought it would be pure fluff - however there was more plot and character dynamics and development and that was good. This book would be some people’s heaven, as it reads like a beginners guide to all sorts of kinks and fantasies. I imagine others would really struggle with some of the kinks explored, however. Go in expecting the boundaries to be pushed more in the sex department than typical kinky books available.

Zane is MVP. Zercy Captivates
Zane Daniels was outstanding. At first, l was crushed his narration was strident and rushed. On my second listen, l slowed the speed to 0.9X: PERFECT!! Zane's bass was a musical instrument that gave the Krie a deep, sonorous sound. Zercy was deliciously cool and controlled but Gesh's growlier resonance was my absolute favourite. Listen for Lotus' musicality and Sirus' joie de vivre because tah! Accents was a Zane strength: I adored how he prounounced Tohri and laughed and loved his posh English with a musical cadence (Airis), Scots (Kegan), Russian (Sasha) and his subtle variations viz. American. However, Mr. Daniels blew it out of the water with his vocal acting. Explicit scenes conveyed lust; arguments were heated; ZD ramped up cadence and infused urgency for a battle; and l hurt at Zercy's desperate prayer to the gods. Zane Daniels is why the Nira Chronicles are an auto buy for me!
📚 The prevalence of semen and erotica on repeat numbed and l had to repeatedly remind myself that l signed up for this. Alec bored and bored with his beyond redundant thoughts, grinding molars and clenching stomach. His petulant, Pinocchio esque characterisation is why l docked a star from the story. Then there was Zercy: regal, mature, sexy, so very appealing and l adored his household!! Ms. Knight's world building was excellent viz. a wrestling tournament whose set up to conclusion was hilarious, well-plotted and with an ‘I did not see it coming and noooo where is this going?!?’ quality! This set piece - and when Sirus examined a human in his lab plus the flight of the Dekdónni - were absolutely rip roaring fun!

STILL CONFLICTED - BUT HUGE IMPROVEMENT!
After just finishing the first book I found that this second entry into The Nira Chronicles was also available so picked it up and delved right back into this world. My conflicted opinions on the first book were still fresh but was hopeful this second entry would address the concerns I had with the characterizations of the humans. In short some of my concerns were addressed, but not all which I will go into further detail below. But overall this entry is a big improvement on the first book.
Like the first book, this entry does a great job at painting a vivid image of Nira and it's alien inhabitants. This entry is much longer than the first, allowing for far more world building to be given to the reader, which I was thankful for and very much enjoyed. Although I am aware this is an erotic novel, I very much enjoyed visualizing the details of the world itself. If anything I'd say I enjoyed this aspect more so than the erotic scenes that smattered the story.
I was glad to learn more of Nira. This entry specifically was a deep dive into the core of krie culture and it did a great job of bring their society to life. Of course other races do make appearances, but they are merely supporting roles to this entry that offer a glimpse into what other avenues future entries could explore. However it is the krie who take centre stage in this book and it is the King Zercy who serves as the readers guide into his kingdom.
As with the first book, I very much enjoyed the characterizations of the krie, with Zercy quickly becoming my favourite character by far. Simply because he had far more depth than any other character in the series thus far. He was complex and multi faceted. He was a believable character and as such is one the reader can truly connect with....which is a stark contrast to Alec and the other human characters, who again seemed anything but human.
It was great to finally see Alec have some meaningful character development at long last!.....however it came far too late into the book. At least two thirds of the book went by before we saw any meaningful change to Alec's character that actually stuck. I'm sorry to say that throughout the course of the first book and the majority of the second, Alec and his teammates (excluding Noah) became increasingly annoying. Yet again the reader is forced to go through their same repetitious and nonsensical inner monologues....Every time these "humans" had an intimate moment or even thought about the gay acts they very clearly loved, it was always followed by some nonsensical tripe about how they were "straight" or how they "couldn't/shouldn't" feel the way they did.
These irritating monologues have been a constant thorn in the side of this story from the beginning. But it is especially aggravating in the case of Alec....I feel as though the author was trying to portray the inner struggle every gay person has to go through as they come to terms with their sexuality. However in this case it just came across as totally unrealistic and far from accurate.
When a gay person is coming into their sexual awakening, the kind of inner turmoil Alec was experiencing was fairly accurate. However once a gay person goes back for seconds, thirds, and beyond....these kind of inner monologues quickly disappear because they are actively engaging on continuing down this path and actively taking part in further gay sexual encounters....
The simple truth of the matter is that Alec's inner turmoil should have dwindled far sooner than it should have. To the point where it not only became ridiculous but also totally ruined the immersion. Not only that but it also just ruined the natural flow of the plot and character development. Every time Alec had yet another one of his incredibly aggravating monologues I became less and less interested in his character. The same thing can be said for the other humans. But because they yet again did not receive much limelight in the plot, their monologues were less obnoxious but still very annoying. Bottom line is that these characters should have accepted being gay way sooner than they did!
Furthermore the human characters still lack any true individuality, especially in regards to the rescue team who are essentially nothing but carbon copies of Alec's team. The humans in this world are nothing more than Action Men...expendable and replaceable plastic figures, with no sense of self awareness or complex cognitive behavior. It is so very ironic that the krie are far more human than the actual humans!....
As a whole though, this second entry was enjoyable...the humans just brought it down and stopped it from being something greater, which it very much could be going forward if the author totally drops this "straight" narrative for future entries. Thankfully it seems the winds of change have finally started to blow in that direction as Alec finally accepted being gay and finally stopped his incessant and moronic "I'm straight" monologues. It seems the other humans in Alec's team finally started to ditch those monologues too, allowing them to finally think and converse as real humans! It's just unfortunate that these changes did not happen until the end of the book.
- Speculative commentary on future entries:
Although I am very critical of certain aspects of this story, it is only because I want to see it become something greater and actually fully embrace gay people and our culture. Rather than vapid and empty smut fetish. As such I do actually look forward to the third entry and hope to see it further shed this stupid "straight" narrative.
Though I fear with the presence of Garret and his team coming into the picture, we're about to see him go through the exact same motions as Alec....Garret has already shown the warning signs of this through his monologues about the lack of Tohri females and speculating on the sexuality of Airis and his comrades...and already it is tiresome. We have already gone through this plot arc with Alec and his team. We do not need to see it repeated through the carbon copy rescue team and their Tohri saviours..

Just wow!
This is the longest book I've listened too but the 20+ hours went by so fast.
You really need to listen to book one first or you won't understand what is happening. I re-listened to book 1 to refresh my memory of where things left off.
The story is fast paced and the world building is fantastic. This is one of the reasons the book doesn't feel as long as it actually is.
Yes - the book is highly erotic, but I felt that it was necessary to understand Zercy and his race.
Zane Daniels, what to say about this guy! This is my first book by this narrator and I'm frantically searching for more 🤓 his range of voices and use of accents across the different species was masterful. As for the voice he used to Zercy... Let's just say he could read me the phone book and I would still need to fan myself 😅😍
Brilliant book - Brilliantly read! I am desperate for the next one now - hopefully soon Ms Knight?!!!! Xxxx

For The Love Of Everything Big And Purple 🔥🔥
What a great story, with different species and their weird world. They have these plants that make you desperate to.... and horns that if you touch...and even trees that concieve..... and so much fudging, wow.
The narration of this story is just superb, Zane Daniels's depth and range of voices of the king and other species and the many humans is excellent.

Hot, hot, hot!!!
Wow, this audiobook is off the charts full of hotness! With a very well written storyline and wonderful characters it’s brilliant. However I feel that the performance given by Zane is what makes this audiobook so enjoyable, you can hear his passion.
