Summary

“大いなる文学のために、死んでください。自分も死にます、この戦争のために” 「私」(太宰)の二人の友人の死についての話。ひとりは病気で、もうひとりは戦争で命を落とした。小説家を目指していた「三井君」と、詩人を目指していた「三田君」である。「私」は生前、三井君の小説も、三田君の詩もまったく認めていなかった。「私」は、このような戦争の時代に体が悪くて兵隊にもなれない三井君をあわれであると思うが、しかし一方で、母親を相手に寝ながら世間話をしている最中、ふと口を噤み、それきり静かに臨終を迎えた三井君の死を、比類が無い美しさであると思う。“人間の最高の栄冠は美しい臨終以外のものではない”、小説の上手下手など、まるで問題にも何もなるものではないと「私」は思う。そして、徴兵されアッツ島の戦いで玉砕した三田君。彼から太宰へ宛てた最後の便り。その葉書に書かれていた文章に「私」は感動する。そして三田くんの最後の手紙を最高の詩であると認め、称賛する。「散華」とは、花と散る、という意から、死ぬこと、特に若くして戦死することをいう。 太平洋戦争期における、太宰の死に対する思いや、そして文学への思い、覚悟について語られている。 ※ 本オーディオ商品は、無断で複製・転載・公衆配信できる状態にすることは法律により禁じられております。 制作・著作パンローリング株式会社
