『母を尋ねて三千里』 あるところに不幸に見舞われて貧乏になってしまった一家がいました。父親と二人の息子はイタリアで暮らしていましたが、母親は出稼ぎのためにアメリカに行くことになりました。それから三ヶ月に一度母親はお金を送ってくれました。ところが、一年がたった頃、体の調子が優れないという便りが届いたっきり、その後は何の連絡もありませんでした。心配になった父親は、母親の安否確かめにアメリカに行くことを決めました。けれど、自分が行っては生活ができなくなるので、泣く泣く末息子で13歳のマルコに行かせることにしました。そうしてマルコの旅が始まります。 本作品は発表時の未熟な時代背景から、今日の社会では一般的でなく、不適切と思われる表現が含まれている箇所がございます。しかし作品のオリジナル性を最大限に尊重し、なるべく当時のまま忠実に再現することを優先いたしました。
