Awesome narrator. Mr Hawkins gave this wonderful book life, with his many accents with true feelings throughout.

As always Cornwell delivered another epic read, bringing history to life, as only he can.

Very engaging, but so bloodthirsty. I bought it for my holiday and finished it the first day. Game of thrones, but for real.

Really enjoyed this book. I don’t think it rates as highly as Azincourt but it’s still very good. The reader was good too but an awful Scottish accent.

Excellent story as always. I didn’t have a problem with the performance, but do get the comments that a bit more emotion in the telling would have improved. Would still give four out of five for the performance though so don’t be put off by performance comments.

This is a great continuation of the "Grail Trilogy" but can be enjoyed on its own. The central characters are embroiled in a new adventure but with the same mix of corrupt churchmen, scheming, stupid and dangerous nobles and savage violence. In such a landscape, honour is an elusive concept and fragile in the face of fear and temptation.



Much of the power and attraction of the novel rests in the detail. Knights in full armour wetting and fouling themselves in fear, the art and savagery of combat, the realities and struggle of domestic survival, are woven into the tale and stand comparison with any academic, historical text.



Real, vital, convincing and gripping: it's a great tale and well narrated.

Cornwell on form: action, pace and good history.
