About this listen

Del Sol, New Mexico is known for three things: its fry-an-egg-on-the-cement summers, strong cups of coffee - and, now, a nationwide manhunt?

Del Sol native Sunshine Vicram has returned to town as the elected sheriff, expecting nothing more than a quiet ride. But now a teenage girl is missing, a kidnapper is on the loose, and all of this is reminding Sunshine why she left Del Sol in the first place. Add to that the trouble at her daughter's new school, plus a kidnapped rooster named Puff Daddy, and, well, the forecast looks anything but sunny.

But even clouds have their silver linings. This one's got Levi, Sunshine's sexy, almost-old flame, and Quincy Cooper, a fiery-hot US marshall. With temperatures rising everywhere she turns, Del Sol's normally cool-minded sheriff is finding herself knee-deep in drama and danger.

Can Sunshine face the call of duty - and find the kidnapper who's terrorising her beloved hometown - without falling head over high heels in love...or worse?

Fantastic story and narration

Darynda Jones just gets better and better. I’ve been a fan for a while but this new series might just be her best. I listened to this in a matter of days because I couldn’t stop listening. Lots of twists and turns. A great cast of characters and a very neat, clever plot.
On top of this great narration.
I would give this more stars if I could 😊

Fantastic story

One of the best books I listened to. I read the book years ago and loved it. The narrator is fantastic and keeps you riveted to the story. I already downloaded the next in the series.

Another ray of light from Darynda

Sunshine Vicram is elected sheriff of a small town called Del Sol (of course) and on her first day on the job a girl is abducted from her home. The girl knew this would happen and described everything in detail, including her death - which means Sunshine has only three days to find her.

Darynda Jones is good with her crime plots. I never see the twists coming, even though I know they will. It's interesting to read a book from Daryinda where the main characters do no have superpowers, even though there is a bit of supernatural flowing around. There's even a nice nod to Charley Davidson that I particularly loved. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because it takes some time to pick up pace, I gave up twice before switching to the audiobook and that's when I finished it. Stick with it, the story and funny dialogues are worth the time and there's a lot of material left for more series.

Excellent!!!

I loved this book, it was so funny and yet put tears in my eyes at times as it did get emotional in some parts, it promises to be an amazing series, every bit as good as the Charley Davidson series, although without the major paranormal focus. I love this new group of characters already and I cannot wait for the next book!!

Brilliantly Binge Worthy with Great Narration

Darynda Jones has done it again, brilliant. This is a great start to a new series. The story line and characters are engrossing, there are twist, turns, quirks, secrets and laugh out loud humour all wrapped up in an intriguing who done it and why, the issues are brilliantly tackled and dialogue between characters is engaging. Lorelei King brings the characters off the page perfectly. I loved Darynda Jones's Charley Davidson series, but think I'm going to love this even more. The female protagonist is extremely likeable and in the mix of all the characters is my dream man (no spoilers). You know a book is very good when it can make you laugh, cry, think, surprise you and you listen to it in one day/night because you have to know what happens next. I'm so looking forward to the next book in this series and watching the characters develop even more as more secrets are unveiled.

A Highly Recommended Listen or Read.

I can’t believe the reviews were so good for this

I have been umming and ahhing about using a credit for this book for some time, since it has such positive reviews here and other sites, so I can’t believe I am leaving such a negative review. I really didn’t enjoy this book at all! Mundane parts of the story are overwritten with such snoozeworthy commentary, whereas the ‘final battle’ is over so quickly that I barely even knew it had happened. The main character is not likeable at all, and some of the verbiage is horribly questionable. It seems outdated and I honestly am surprised it was published in 2020, as it seems very early 2000s.

Tl;dr an overwritten mess
