About this listen

"Every idiot who goes about with 'Merry Christmas' on his lips should be boiled with his own pudding," says Ebenezer Scrooge. Mean old Scrooge despises Christmas until Christmas Eve, when a haunted voice from the past changes his life: overnight! Many know this story but few have experienced the true marvel of the tale.©2007 Public Domain (P)2007 Blackstone Audio, Inc. Classics Fiction Holidays Celebration Winter Christmas Funny

The perfect festive tale to get you feeling warm

I have always loved this story.
So simple and heartfelt in it's telling and in this version is also so well performed by Simon Prebble.
The memories of all the film versions were floating through my head as I listened to this and although I wanted this version to be independent of all of those I only feel it was enhanced by actors of the past running through the scenes and putting their stamp on Ebenezer Scrooge's character.
I highly recommend reminding yourself of a decent way of life by listening to Charles Dickens' original and unabridged telling of A Christmas Carol.

A Festive Masterpiece

One of the grand Victorian storyteller's finest.

Most memorable moment: Ebenezer Scrooge accusing Jacob Marley's spirit of being a hallucination brought on by an undigested bit of beef or raw potato. "There is more of the gravy than the grave about you, whatever you are!"

From majestic composition to impossibly unique character naming, this powerfully festive novella can be read and re-read every Christmas!

Wonderful reading

I have listened to many versions of a Christmas Carol as it is one of Dickens finest works. This was an especially good reading, exceptional and I thoroughly enjoyed this classic that I intend to listen to it several times more before Christmas. Highly recommend.

Irresistible listening at this time of year.

Pop the tree lights on, make a hot chocolate and get cosy on the couch. Then enjoy this classic.

Tradition

This is my favourite Christmas story. I have a tradition that on Christmas Eve I watch the film but now that I've got the talking book it's even better.

Made me cry like a baby

I knew the story before, but Dickens' ability to craft a hearty wrenching story is beyond Hollywood or Disney's ability to retell it.
