A definitive reading

Martin Jarvis is unsurpassed in whatever he reads, but this is truly a classic rendition of a classic story… Audible take note and get Mr Jarvis to read the whole of the Dickens canon as a collection! Wonderful….

A Captivating Performance

Another excellent reading by Martin Jarvis. He may not be to everyone's taste, but for me this is the definitive audio version.

A Christmas Carol. read by Martin Jarvis.

Where does A Christmas Carol rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

A favourite but not my number one favourite.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Scrooge. I love the way he changes with each Ghost.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

Where Scrooge realises that he is the body under the sheet.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It's a real feel good story to watch Scrooge become a better human being as the story unfolds.

Any additional comments?

Martin Jarvis is one of my favourite audio readers, especially when he reads Dickens as he has a natural affinity for exactly interpreting the characters.

Perfect telling of my favourite Christmas story

I've listened to this fabulous narration of the story many, many times and it's still as wonderful as the first time I heard it as an audible book. Martin Jarvis has the most amazing range of character voices, from Scrooge himself to the Ghosts and females without making them sound like a pantomime dame. Perfection itself.

Martin Jarvis is an extremely talented storyteller and performs this tale so well that he draws the listener in and doesn't let go until the inspirational conclusion.

I enjoyed this immensely. Martin Jarvis is amazing in his ability to create characters through his narration and express the feelings experienced by them. And of course it is a brilliant story.

Loved it! Everyone Should Read This At Christmas!

I have fallen in love with Charles Dicken's stories. And especially listening to them on audiable. The narrators bring the story alive and makes listening a pleasure. Martin Jarvis did a wonderful job and he has the perfect tones and voice to listen to. Other Dicken's I highly recommend are Great Expectations with Matt Lucas narrating and Dombey and Son with David Timson narrating. These experiences have made me want to listen to all of the Dicken's novels. And there is a message in all, Dicken's was a great observer and turned this skill into his writing and creating characters. So much depth and humour in all his novels. Enough said, this is a must read at Christmas!

A virtuoso reading of this extraordinary work by a uniquely brilliant author.

I have loved this book ever since I was a child and for about fifty years I have read it every Christmas. In recent years I have chosen audiobooks instead and have listened to most of the best available. I must say that NONE of them can rival this reading. I adore this tale and, coming from London, it has a special place in my heart due to its setting. Try reading about the background to this tale as well as it reveals the compassion of Dickens and his desire to change society. Lastly, due to ill-health, I thought this would be the first Christmas that I wouldn’t read or listen to this tale but then I saw Martin Jarvis’s version was available so I thought I would just try it. What joy it has brought me and what nostalgia too. Thank you Martin and everyone behind this production.
