About this listen
A planet’s future is about to take a dramatic turn.
Joseph Colsco, Mark Caldwell, and Heather Chen. Cast away by aliens onto a planet inhabited by humans, transplanted there by a second alien race thousands of years in the past, and for reasons unknown. Each of the three found themselves left naked on beaches scattered across the planet Anyar. Each struggled to survive as strangers amidst humans with technology centuries behind Earth’s. Each lived through years of adjustments, trials, dangers, and new lives beyond anything they could have imagined - or feared. The aliens who left them to fend for themselves wanted them far enough apart so they would never meet, assuming that as individuals they would have no impact on Anyar’s civilizations.
Only now they have come together, and nothing will ever be the same.
©2021 Olan Thorensen (P)2021 Podium AudioI've noticed that quite a number of reviewers in Amazon.com have panned this book because of its slow pace, apparent digressions, and detailed information (and probably limited action). I can see what they are getting at, but they seem not to be aware that after a climax there needs to be a hiatus where we all take stock and prepare ourselves for the next big push. Don't forget that it took four books to get to the first major climax of "total war" in Forged in Fire. Skipping Book 5 as this was a set of short stories, we are now in the second book of the second major episode in Caedellium's history. Much of the detail those reviewers have difficulty with I personally find interesting and some are definitely preparing the groundwork for the following story. Perhaps some of those reviewers should reread the book with this view in mind (see, for example, Chapter 11, "Amabssadors", or the changing relationship with Fuomon) as it may help them get a more useful perspective on this story.
I'm definitely looking forward to the continuing story. Just how is the small nation of Caedellium going to influence the downfall of Narthon? What roles do the three "Amerikans" have in this endeavour? How much social change can a small nation accept, even if it is for its continued existence in a changing world?
Jonathan Davis again does an excellent job of bringing the story to life.
[Aside: Thorensen does a good job of ensuring his chemistry is accuate. However, in Chapter 20 of this book, under "Truce" we find the following: "... fluorine, sodium, potassium, iodine in another (column)". Well, sodium and potassium fall under Column/Group 1, the alkalie metals, whereas fluoine and iodine fall under Column/Group 7, the halides. Oops!]
An interesting progression in Anyar's story

Too little happened and too much description of minor events and developments for my taste.
Still, I love the series and very much look forward to the next release as it’s really well set up for some fireworks.
Love the series but this one is slow going
