Entertaining again
Second in the series, still enjoyable, still easy listening. The characters are largely interesting. It’s set in the same village as the first book which, if that’s going to continue, and I lived in this small community, I’d move!
I find it quite clever, it’s well written, the wit is subtle making it more enjoyable.
However, there’s an obvious undercurrent (yes, I know!), continuing in the background. If that continues into subsequent books and it’s clearly going in to the third book, for me it will get old very quickly and, again for me, will be distracting rather than an enhancement to the main story. Maybe it will become the main story and then move on. We’ll see.

Not for me
I discovered Louise Penny when reading a Peter Swanson novel, I’d never heard of her before and was delighted to have possibly found a new detective series to enjoy on Audible, I tried two of the series, and sadly I won’t be trying any more soon. I’m struggling to see the attraction of Chief Inspector Gamache, despite his beautifully tailored slacks and fine turtle neck sweaters. The plots seem absurd to me, and locating murders in such a small community seems a bit odd. Also I cannot be the only person irritated by the whole Agent Nichol storyline. Gamache needs a few lessons in basic people management, The narrator did a good job, though I have to say I found the accents rather grating.

A magical story
The characters grow and grow. The story draws you in and envelops the senses. I must continue with the next. Loved it.

Excellent start to an outstanding series
So vivid is the depiction of the inhabitants and landscape of Three Pines that it is hard to believe it is not real. No Olivier and Gabri and their b and b with the best food and atmosphere you could imagine. No Ruth the damaged poet, no lovely Clara adorned with croissant crumbs, no Myrna, kind and insightful. And worst of all no Inspector Gamache the man you learn to love with a passion for his faults as much as his strengths. Thank goodness Louise Penny is continuing to chronicle the story of her remarkable characters with insight, compassion and a steely eyed honesty. Adam Sims does a remarkably good job of reading the books.

AKA: Dead Cold
No one mentions that this book was originally titled Dead Cold. So if you’re looking for that title, this is it.
The only disappointing thing about this story is that Agent Nicole is back <sigh>.

Great characters!
Stronger story and more layers than the first book. Great sequel which then leaves you wanting more from a dastardly arc developing.

Adam Sims delivers another fantastic performance.
I really enjoyed this book. It's my second Louise Penny novel. Adam Sims does an exceptional job delivering so many voices and accents, he really brings the characters to life. The only thing that bothered me about this story was the frequent mention of obese people and the prejudice towards them. I know one of the characters was obese but it really bothered me how the author described her and other people with weight issues. It felt offensive.

Christmas is almost ruined in Three Pines
I'm not sure if there is a better police procedure series than this. Louise Penny is an excellent author who always manages to produce a murder for Inspector Gamache and his team, In this book we are subjected to an extremely cruel mother's murder in Three Pines.

paper thin story line
Not really my type of book.Rather unbelievable and silly storyline. Found it boring in places.All the good and evil stuff much too childish for me.
