About this listen
In a world on the brink of ecological collapse, how can we realign our path to one that ensures humanity's and the planet's survival?
In A Global Shift to Gandhi: Earth-Shastra and Humane Arthashastra, Dr. R.K. Pachauri, a globally renowned environmental scientist and former Chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), presents a thought-provoking exploration of how Mahatma Gandhi's timeless principles can guide us through the environmental and societal crises we face today.
This groundbreaking book examines the urgent need for a radical transformation in our global approach to development. Drawing inspiration from Gandhi’s ideals of simplicity, non-violence, and equitable resource use, Dr. Pachauri introduces the concept of Earth-Shastra—a framework for sustainable living that harmonizes human progress with the preservation of the planet's ecosystems.
As environmental degradation accelerates and climate change looms, Dr. Pachauri argues that incremental changes are no longer enough. Instead, he advocates for a disruptive shift in our values and practices—a new form of capitalism that prioritizes ecological balance, social justice, and the wellbeing of future generations.
Through compelling insights and rigorous analysis, A Global Shift to Gandhi challenges readers to rethink their role in shaping a sustainable future. This book is not just a reflection on the grim realities of our time, but a beacon of hope, urging individuals, policymakers, and global leaders to embrace a Gandhian approach to development—one that secures the future of our planet and all its inhabitants.
Whether you are an environmentalist, a student of Gandhian philosophy, or simply someone concerned about the future of our world, this book offers an inspiring vision for how we, collectively, can steer our society toward a more sustainable and just future.

Gandhi's Wisdom for Our Dying Planet
I never expected an environmental book to hit me this hard. As someone who's watched climate disasters unfold year after year, I was skeptical that any new perspective could offer hope. But Dr. Pachauri's narration of "A Global Shift to Gandhi" completely changed my outlook.
His concept of Earth-Shastra brilliantly applies Gandhi's principles to our modern environmental crisis. What struck me most was how he transforms abstract ideas into practical solutions for rethinking capitalism and consumption.
The production quality is excellent too—clear audio that made complex topics digestible during my commute.
This isn't just another doom-and-gloom climate book. It's a genuinely inspiring vision that left me feeling empowered rather than overwhelmed. If you're tired of incremental thinking about our planet's future, this audiobook offers the radical reimagining we desperately need.

A worthy read for the world we live in
There was lots of great information in this audiobook and it addresses the prime concerns of climate change and inequality through capitalism in the world. The suggestion is not to get rid of capitalism but look to sustainability and distribution, It was thought provoking and a worthy listen.

Interesting listen
This is an interesting listen if you are interested in the topic. Dr. Pachauri calls for a paradigm shift when it comes to how we approach economics, sustainability, and human values. Inspired by Gandhian philosophy, the book proposes a model of development that is environmentally sustainable and humane.
Dr. Pachauri offers arguments for why our current economic models, which are rooted in relentless consumption and growth, are unsustainable and ultimately self-destructive. His vision is an "Earth-Shastra," rooted in reverence for nature, and a "Humane Arthashastra," grounded in ethics and compassion. His passion for the cause is very apparent throughout the book.
The book is well-researched and engaging, and his passion for the cause is apparent throughout the book. It challenges readers to reflect on the moral compass of our economic systems and invites policymakers, scholars, and citizens alike to reconsider what true progress means.
Whether you're a student of sustainability, an environmental advocate, or someone simply curious about a better way forward, this book will give you insight into the topic.
