About this listen

Fleeing a troubled past, Sarah Faust has found the perfect place to begin a new life. Tucked away on a charming side street and surrounded by lush grounds, the neglected 300-year-old townhouse in the port city of Charleston offers a refuge and a place to start over. But all is not as it seems at Five Rue Lane, and she soon finds that her new house harbors something that has been there for a very long time. Something that refuses to stay buried. In A Haunting, L. I. Albemont brings us parallel tales of old and modern horror, weaving colonial era events into a modern ghost story you won't soon forget.

I enjoyed this straight forward story. The narrator was fine for my ears . Easy to listen to.

Good story

Story seemed ok but the narrator really wasn’t my cup of tea. Very little inflection or in fact anything to define one character from another. Still think the book is could be worth a read

Murdered by narrator

The story line was good and gripping but the narration although ok missed a bit of drama when dramatic things were happening

Good story line and characters

Nice ghost story. Characters i quite liked and plenty of delving into the dim distant past. In no danger of passing out with fear but will deffo read again.

Good ol' fashioned story

Storyline kept me hooked. performance was pretty good. my only criticism is that I feel there were a few loose ends that the author failed to address, leaving some parts of the story to seem irrelevant at the end.
a nice easy listen though.

Gripping and enjoyable

Pretty enjoyable story if you can’t decide if you like witch-lore, ghosts or Judeo-Christian mythology best. I think focusing on one or max two supernatural topics would have increased the impact of the story, as the mixing diluted the strength of each. I’m also struggling lately with horror/supernatural stories that use the same tone of narration as the intro to Desperate Housewives. The narrator here added zero impact to any sense of dread or tension and I had to backtrack my brain occasionally to fill in the intonation to actually understand the narrative - without the right emphasis, certain passages come across completely wrong.

Not quite sure what it wanted to be

I really wanted to like this, as I appreciated the whole historical research and going through the archives thing; unfortunately the main character is flat, there’s too much focus on everyday basic tasks and not enough on the haunting; even when it comes to the haunting, apart from the last three chapters, there isn’t really any atmosphere built around it.
The narration is ok but too slow, 1.2x will bring it to a normal speed.

Great potential, not so well developed

Couldn’t wait for it to end . Wasted a credit . Wouldn’t even rate it one star . Boring , slow , terrible story line . Just kept going because I had paid for it !

Rubbish
