It's a tame story. I like it when the old biddies are involved, even though I find that an offensive title for them. And, luckily for me, they were included in this story but nowhere near enough.

The story was ok, usual formula. The cat was included too, even though taking the cat away on trips is really not something most people would do.

It certainly was not one of my favourites but it was good easy listening.

A wee little mystery to keep you guessing and I loved it, as both a book but especially as an audio book. The author certainly knows how to entertain, in a cleverly worked out plot. I loved the way that she even managed to include her regularly characters into the adventure, to add there own investigative skills and chaos to the fun, despite being in a total different location to the rest of the books in the series (which are worth a listen). The mystery as well as being set in a beautiful setting of Scotland, which was described well making it easy to imagine, it kept me guessing with so many suspects. I did think Gemma ended up suspecting and accusing everybody, so that didn't help narrow down the suspects list but the clues were there. The Murder weapon also add a good mystery to the story with all the possibilities. I can't wait for the next mystery.
With the tearoom having to shut down for a week for urgent repairs, Gemma has no reason not to join her best friend Cassie on a trip to Scotland. While Cassie is teaching her painting class to hotel guests, Gemma plans to experience Scottish traditions like whisky and high teas. Instead she stumbles over a dead body and another murder investigation to solve. As soon as the 'Old Biddies' learn of the murder they pack there bags and head to Scotland to help with the investigation. The dead woman wasn't very nice to guests or staff so the suspect list is long. Can Gemma, the 'Old Biddies' and Muesli the cat find the killer amongst the guest of the hotel? Or is it an outsider like the police think who is responsible?A
I still really like this narrator, especially in this book as she had to do some Scotlish accents which really transported you to the high lands.

I have read all the Oxford tearoom collection and thought I would listen to this one. I have not been disappointed! Pearl Hewitt has the most delightful voice and a brilliant ability to reproduce accents! A real treat. The story took us to Scotland in the Highlands and was special for me as this is a place I have been many times and is my little paradise on earth.
Thank you H.Y. Hanna for a captivating story. My sleuth talents were put to shame as I missed to find who the culprit was and realised or suspected very late in the story. Please keep writing about Emma and the biddies! Great fun and escapism!

I was enjoying this book right up until Gemma Rose started falsely accusing people of murder & then thought she was right, specially when she intimidated the young, fragile harpist. This part seemed rather bullying specially as miss rose is NOT a detective!
Then with she continued about having proof, from someone else about a shadow, this is summarising not proof.
She's better off having someone to discuss the case with instead of going half-cocked on her own, making wrong assumptions, then just wildly accusing & getting it wrong!
Normally Gemma is gentle, friendly not harsh or brash, didn't like this side of her!
I would've loved to hear more about Scotland. I'm Scottish & absolutely love the place, did feel their was lots of depth about history & surroundings missing from this story. Scotland has a lot of history about ghosts etc & secret passages in castles, feuds, fights, highland games, big festivals all part of its history.

Did like Ewan though, thought he was lovely.

Of all the books, I loved the magical chocolate books best with uncle viktor the vampire, please can we have more of them.

A charming mystery set in Scotland and in a library! A perfect pairing. I loved that Gemma gets to travel a little further afield in this book, but a murder in a library was the icing on the cake. Add a dollop of humour, a fabulous cast of characters, and a mystery to keep you guessing giving you a guaranteed entertaining few hours of listening. The narrator as always does a great job.

I discovered Audible during lockdown, & quickly realised that cosy detective novels were my thing in my 50s, so it's lovely to have another writer on my list! I also have my 84 year old mum hooked, albeit via paperbacks, as she isn't smartphone savvy. She's missing out, as Pearl Hewitt is a fabulous narrator. If like me, you use Audible novels to wind down at bedtime, & fall asleep to them, then this series is perfect! Yes, it's formulaic, but that's half the fun. HY Hannah knows her cosy detective genre audience, writes her novels well , & has got the perfect voice actor in Pearl Hewitt!

Made me want to visit the highlands again! Brilliant setting for the latest Gemma and friends sleuthing adventure. Enjoyed learning the Scottish recipes, too!
