About this listen

The first-ever stand-alone psychological thriller by best-selling author Tom Wood is a gripping and frightening game of cat and mouse that will keep listeners enthralled....

They ask for your husband. They just want to talk. They're lying.

Your husband isn't who he says he is, say the people at your door. Come with us.

Don't trust them, says a voice on the phone. Run.

Who would you believe?

In this terrifying first psychological thriller by best-selling author Tom Wood (previously published under T.W. Ellis), one woman goes on the run and is forced to question everything she held dear....

Critic reviews

"Riveting, twisty as all hell, and very, very clever, A Knock at the Door is a rollercoaster ride of brilliance. Tom Wood is a superb thriller writer." (Sarah Pinborough)

grand wee book, bit heavy with details and a little difficult to keep track of at times, but stick with it the twists and turns are surprising and one huge one at the end

that's some twist

found it slow at first and struggled to get into it but once the story had me hooked I loved it. always enough first person told narratives!! must read for those like me who enjoy a nice mystery/thriller with a few twists thrown in

Great piece of story telling

For fans of Tom Wood stick with this book. You may think it's an obvious generic plot. the twist at the end is worth it!

stay with it

Nothing like the Victor series of books. This was pedestrian and although mystifying in part was nonetheless boring. The narrator didn't help either.

Rather dull

From the outset of this story it causes the reader to beg the questions; why would Tom wood an accomplished author try to write a novel in the first person from the perspective of a woman? Moreover, in the current social climate, why does this woman need to be ‘broken’? Some feeble damsel with a mixture of emotional issues who depends entirely on her husband. It’s tactless at best, misogynistic at worst.

Secondly why would the character who is already so inexplicably flawed be so unlikeable, making bad decisions her only motif and being gullible to the point of idiocy? I listened to the audio book (DNF) and the narration is terrible, the female orators voice is needling and any attempts to mimic a male character are as clumsy as the terrible premise for this story, which is neither original or compelling. I will be requesting a refund.

A terrible let down, DNF.

For me, Irritating narration. Ending left me feeling conned by the story and wishing I hadn't bothered listening.

Don't Bother.

So bad; a story that went nowhere and which was pointless. I cannot believe that the same writer who crafted Victor the assassin penned this rubbish.

Awful
