Summary

Full of beautiful, heart-wrenching, and hilarious stories, A Million Miles in a Thousand Years details one man's opportunity to edit his life as if her were a character in a movie. Years after writing his best-selling memoir, Donald Miller went into a funk and spent months sleeping in and avoiding his publisher. One story had ended, and Don was unsure how to start another. But he gets rescued by two movie producers who want to make a movie based on his memoir. When they start fictionalizing Don's life for film - changing a meandering memoir into a structured narrative - the real-life Don starts a journey to edit his actual life into a better story.

A Million Miles in a Thousand Years details that journey and challenges listeners to reconsider what they strive for in life. It shows how to get a second chance at life the first time around.

A really interesting view on life

The author's voice at the beginning was a little off-putting, a bit monotone. Yet after this initial observation was forgotten about, the stories & his views on them were enlightening.
A really good read.

Not my usual genre

I rarely go for this kind of book but this was recommend on the Noah Kagan podcast so thought I'd give it a go.
I enjoyed this book enormously, the idea of living your story really struck a chord and I feel like it will help me to stop wallowing around and make some more interesting memories.

Are you feeling stuck? Or perhaps adrift?

If you are feeling stuck or adrift then Donald Miller's earthy, self-depricating story-telling might just be what you need. I always listen with a wry smile.

Awesome narration

Notwithstanding a great and thought provoking piece the narrator was first class. Every word was read and gave the book more meaning than it has

A great story about story

The author is a great narrator, an author who gets how to read a book: as if you're telling a great story. Reflecting on his own life and the meaning of life while writing a script to his own movie makes him draw parallels on building a good story in a movie and in life.

A beautiful story about the story of life

Lyrical, enchanting and thought provoking. This book allows the reader to ponder the meaning of life through the performance of the stories we create for ourselves. One read isn’t enough, I will be reading this book over to pick up the abundance of important messages I missed first time around.
