About this listen

It was the perfect vacation fling. And then a body showed up.

Jane Austen fan Amelia Bennett sneaks away from a dull tour of an English country manor, only to run into a man more dashing than Mr. Darcy himself. About to lose his ancestral home to family debts, charming aristocrat Tom Calder invites his American guest to join him in drinking his way through the estate’s priceless wine collection. But when they wake in his bed the next morning, they’re convinced that in their drunken haze they witnessed a murder.

Problem is, the body has vanished and no one believes them—except the shadowy figures stalking them through the estate's empty halls and lonely woodlands. On the run for their lives, Amelia and Tom must piece together their shifting memories and a string of baffling clues to expose the crime—while navigating their morning-after awkwardness and the undeniable sparks between them. As their unexpected bond deepens, they begin to wonder if their own love story could be one for the ages—if they manage to survive at all.

easy to listen to and a good pace to the story. Two narrators helps avoid the dissonance that sometimes occurs with one narrator and two points of view.

really enjoyable

Keep me entertained, seemed very long winded, not what I expected the who done it at the end.

Enjoyable but very long winded.

Really enjoyed this romantic/thriller from the start . It’s nice to listen to a story that you can’t predict the ending

Excitement from the beginning to the end. Love the little twists that keep you guessing what's next. Really enjoyed this one. Would love a part 2.

Hooked from the start

Took a long while to get to the actual story, but does have an interesting plot twist.

Slow starter

Absolutely loved this book and gutted it came to an end. Every bit of it kept me gripped and wanting to hear more

Thrilling

The story could have been told in a lot less time so did a bit of fast forwarding. Too much unnecessary chat for me especially at the end. Would have been disappointed if I had paid for the book, appreciate the chance for a free listen.

Passed the time

Expect nothing more than pleasant schmaltz from this and you won't be disappointed. A long path to an obvious conclusion.

Easy background listening

You know roughly how this sort of story will end within a minute of starting it, but the fun is figuring out how. And this story will keep you guessing all the way through! The characters are thrown totally outside their comfort zones, and both develop and mature as they deal with everything. Nice to have two narrators with plausible accents, too.

There were times when I felt their conversations took far longer than the "narrative time" the action allowed.

Couple of major research fails...
- there's no such legal sanction as "reversion", which I think should have been "probation"
- the sort of "hunting rifle" involved has been illegal in the UK since 1988.

Entertaining and imaginative
