About this listen
Jack Ross is lonely. It feels like he has lost everything that gave his life meaning. His wife Sherry died 19 months ago. He retired from practicing law nine months ago. Sports injuries forced him to give up playing basketball and tennis. He is lost without the love of his life, meaningful work, and the outlet of playing sports to distract him from the pain of his loss.
When his former law partner invites him to try out a new game with the silly name of pickleball, Jack is skeptical, but he agrees to give it a try. He was on the varsity tennis team at Butler University, so he quickly picks up the new game and loves it. No longer depressed, Jack feels so rambunctious a romance blossoms with a delightfully attractive member of the pickleball group.
But there is a surprising twist in the story when Jack's life and the lives of his new friends and love interest become embroiled in an international conspiracy. A mysterious man in black begins to stalk them with murderous intent.
It's a pickleball soap opera! The FBI, CIA, Al-Qaeda, Taliban, US Marines and Air Force, British Special Forces, spies, and terrorists all play a part in the drama that entangles the pickleball players and spans the globe from Ohio to Afghanistan and Chicago to Pakistan. It has romance, murder, and pickleball!

Further on there is a long and rambling story about two brothers war experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan, this could again be considerably shortened but still explained the impact that their experiences had. So this got me very frustrated, but I persevered because I wanted to se how it would all pan out, as there were some interesting situations developing.
Then wham! in the middle of a fight scene where a homicidal man was trying to kill the four main characters the book ended with 'read the next book to find out what happened' This really annoys me as it is the biggest cliff-hanger that I have ever experienced.
This would have made one reasonable length book if it had been edited sensibly, but instead it has been padded out to make, I assume, two books, or maybe even three. I don't care as there is no way I would read anything further from this author, even if it was free.
Too much technical detail and a huge cliff-hanger
