About this listen
In a world of expectations, this quirky, enemies-to-lovers lesbian romance is about making your own path.
The whole "big city, successful career, loyal, hot girlfriend" experiment has been a miserable failure for veterinarian Tess Robinson, so she's moved back home to a small town in the Scottish countryside. She doesn't count on a run-in with the stuck-up, maddening, local landowner Lady Susannah Karlson, who tries to boss Tess around as if she owns the whole town...which she sort of does.
Closeted, wealthy, ice queen Lady Karlson is having the worst year - becoming widowed, being embroiled in a public feud over her vast estate, and now finding herself at odds with the sharp-tongued new vet who has just blown in from London. The annoying woman is so unsuitable to tend her horses, so impertinent, and so frustratingly cute.
As their clashes build and they're thrust together against a back-drop of eccentric village busybodies, class warfare, and deadly dangers, the circling women start to wonder if there might be something more to the rising tensions between them. It can't all be hate, can it?
Contains mature themes.

Worth a listen
Surprised it took me so long to come across this book on audible but it seems to be a highly underrated wlw romance that hasn’t yet had the exposure it deserves.
Easy to fall in love with the MCs and a very strong portrayal of the setting which made it enjoyable to picture the story unfold.
The narrator was pretty spot on with the Scottish dialect which made this audible really stand out. Nothing worse than having a poorly executed local dialect which many audibles fall for when trying to balance between the English and Scottish dialect.
Will be looking for more work from this author in future.

very entertaining
Got this as an audible included title and a good listen that is well performed. I liked the characters and started listening in the early hours for 30 minutes and 3 hours later forced myself to stop.

Enjoyable romance
an enjoyable romance with fun strong characters. The lady of the manor and the new vet in an enemies to lovers w/w relationship with family issues and a dramatic ending. I really liked these characters, the story was great and the fact that it was an audible plus catalogue made it a hidden little gem. Narration is excellent giving the characters life.

Great story and narration
Lovely to listen to a well written and plotted f/f romance set in Scotland. The narrator adds to the authenticity and emotion of the story by reading with sensitivity and humour where appropriate. She gives every character an individual voice without overdoing the posh accents for English characters unlike most audiobook productions. Even better, she gave all the Scottish characters authentic accents read with a lovely Scottish burr.

Audible version not entirely convincing
Firstly, I have the audio version, acquired free during an Audible “sale”.
Okay.
We-ell, I found it impossible to believe the repeated confrontations between the two main characters that suddenly stopped as the story progressed.
I didn’t like the narration. It wasn’t convincing. The voice for Susannah wasn’t anywhere near the Received Pronunciation that would be expected of an Englishwoman of her status. Her accent was identical to the character from Essex, complete with glottal stops, etc.. The landed gentry, of which Susannah was a part even before being in Scotland, really do not speak with the same accents as ordinary, everyday folks from Essex.
However, what really spoiled it was when the narrator changed Tess’s surname from Robinson to Robertson! I don’t know if this error also exists in the print version but it’s a colossal faux pas. I almost turned it off at that point but gritted my teeth and stuck with it.
I had to suspend disbelief at some incidents in the story and overall felt it to be somewhat amateurish.
I’ve tried not to give away any spoilers and understand my review is subjective. Other readers/listeners may thoroughly enjoy the story, especially those from the U.S., who may not quite grasp the nuances of different accents or status that still exist in the U.K.
I do wonder that if I had read the book first, before listening to it, whether my opinion would be different. I’ll never know, but do know the narration really spoiled it for me, and may well have contributed to the amateurish feel of the story.

Felt a little rushed
Both the story and the narration felt a little rushed. The story was decent, but it felt a few chapters short for me, where more building of the dynamic and relationship between the two lead women was missing. That being said, it was still a nice story, and I did enjoy listening to it. It was just missing that building up and oomph I get when a pairing is nicely built up and finally comes together.
The narration began quite rushed to me, like she was trying to hurry through. I either adjusted to her rushing, or she actually slowed down a bit half way through the story, but it did improve towards the end. Her Scottish accents were good and varied enough for most characters.
Overall worth a listen, but a bit short.
