About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
A Richard & Judy Book Club Pick.
THE SCORCHING SUNDAY TIMES no.1 BESTSELLER FROM THE AUTHOR OF THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN
Penguin presents the audio edition of A Slow Fire Burning, read by Rosamund Pike.
'What is wrong with you?'
Laura has spent most of her life being judged. She's seen as hot-tempered, troubled, a loner. Some even call her dangerous.
Miriam knows that just because Laura is witnessed leaving the scene of a horrific murder with blood on her clothes, that doesn't mean she's a killer. Bitter experience has taught her how easy it is to get caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Carla is reeling from the brutal murder of her nephew. She trusts no one: good people are capable of terrible deeds. But how far will she go to find peace?
Innocent or guilty, everyone is damaged. Some are damaged enough to kill.
Look what you started.
'Shocking, moving, full of heart . . . A Slow Fire Burning shows a writer at the height of her powers.' Observer (Thriller of the Month)
'Superbly told, its twists and turns reveal the slow fire burning inside each which might just destroy them. Utterly compelling.' Daily Mail
'Fast-paced, highly charged and carried off with so much confidence that it is impossible to resist.'
Sunday Times

One for fans
Rosamund Pike brings this to life very well and 'A Slow Fire Burning' probably delivers just what is intended...that seemed to me to be a story that is hoping to be made into a film. If that happens, it will be a middle of the road thriller, not too edgy, with lots of colourful characters and plot turns that will leave audiences happy enough. As a book I felt that it was easy to lose track of which character was which, they have quite a lot in common, and the story was a little too far-fetched for me.
It's a good, page turning, easy reading, twisty, pulpy thriller - but it will not live long in my memory.

Extremely addictive and brilliantly acted
This was such an interesting and good book! The narration is more than reading it’s beautifully acted out and you believe each character is a separate person! The story is addictive; it’s funny, consistent and gripping! I wish I hadn’t listened to it, just so I can experience it again!

A griping story
I thought Rosamund Pike was an excellent narrator. Loved her expressions of Laura. Even though a little dark at times, it had some great comedy moments.

An engaging listen
A very engaging listen. Exceedingly well drawn characters, I could see each one in my minds eye. Such a skilfully unwrapped plot and very well read by Rosamund Pike. A book which draws you in and keeps you there, even though I guessed, correctly, so many of the outcomes as we were going along. It was like knowing the family and predicting what was going to happen next! And then it did!

Gripping with top class narration
Rosamund Pike delivers a brilliant performance giving each character a distinctive voice. So well acted.
Overall this is a gripping story and well plotted. Perhaps some recollections are a little repetitive however I couldn’t tear myself away from it.
