About this listen

When Jennifer Tucker arrives in the sleepy Devonshire village of Burracombe, she's searching for more than a place to settle.... Like the rest of the nation, the Burracombe villagers are shocked when King George VI dies suddenly. But the arrival of a stranger in the village on the very same day goes almost unnoticed - they all have their own concerns.

As Jennifer Tucker looks for a family she hadn't even realised existed, the village gradually becomes involved in her search, and more than one person is led to question their own ideas about families and what they mean.

A very entertaining, heartfelt story

Loved this story, and the narrator was utterly brilliant with all her accents and she puts so much emotion into the story.

The main story was very poignant, meaningful and heartfelt. One of the chapters was a bit too hard going so I skipped it, but I’m a very sensitive soul. Most of the characters are well rounded and I feel like I really know them. However, yet again I found Stella very annoying and a real wet lettuce, a nothing character really. I would prefer her to be left out of the books.

Another great episode in the Burracombe saga!

Anne Dover is the only Lilian Harry narrator for me! This has been a treat to listen to. I was surprised I’d missed this one out when trying to read them chronologically. A more recent book in the series was narrated by someone else and it was quite spoiled because of it. These books have a lot of conversational content so the narration is extremely important. One of those books I didn’t want to come to an end - the characters are so well portrayed by the author and interpreted so well by Anne Dover.

Burracombe Again

I’ve loved all the stories that I have listened to and this one was really good. I am not sure if there will be any more books written about the lives of people living in the village on Burracombe but I do hope so. Thank you Lilian Harry for writing such interesting stories and Anne Dover for reading this one beautifully.
