September 1937. Kitty Travers enrols at the Conservatoire on the banks of the Seine to pursue her dream of becoming a concert pianist. But then war breaks out and the city of light falls into shadow.

I really enjoyed this audiobook. The narrator was very good but with one flaw. She has very little knowledge of French pronunciation. Some French words were mispronounced and I found that irritating but overall a most enjoyable book.

This is a gripping story but the narrarion is poor. Why choose a reder for a book containing a lot of French, who clearly does not know the language? Even her English pronunciation is poor and this is so annoying that it spoilt my enjoyment of the book.

Good book; poorly read

This was such a treat. It was written beautifully and the narrator was first class with her voice full of clarity and excellent different voices.
I didn't want this to end. I also learnt lots about how Parisians suffered in the war. Won't say too much and ruin it for others.
I really recommend this book to everyone, a thoroughly enjoyable listen from start to finish.

I bought this without knowing anything about the author or narrator as a friend had read the book and recommended it. The story seems very drawn out but I will stay to the end. I don’t think much of the narration and wouldn’t purchase books with the same narrator. Unfortunate purchase by me.

I really enjoyed this book. Three generations, from pre-First World War to the present day. It would have been better had the reader had a greater knowledge of French pronunciation

storyline with some lovely characters in and going from the past to the present within the book was good. The narrator was very good at using different voices for the characters.

I bought this knowing nothing of the author or narrator hoping for some light, easy listening after a binge of mystery/thrillers and some time travel. It was time for a change of genre and so I chose this as one of the "two for one credit" offers. I am a fan of Kerry Greeenwood, Ben Aaronovitch, Elizabeth Peters, Jodi Taylor as well as Lianne Moriarty, but also tried and true thriller writers. so I don't feel I was asking too much and I liked the sound of the description. This title would be a change indeed but not what I was seeking. Sadly I found the narrator spoke with quite a high pitch which rapidly became irritating. And the story-line, well I began to wonder if it had been poorly edited, or perhaps not edited at all as the story didn't flow well. By chapter 9 I was totally bored. I didn't engage and I don't care what happens to any of the characters! So, sadly this was clearly a poor choice on my part and it's being returned unfinished.
