Help the noise is ringing in my head!

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The person that reads it out for this audio because they have a horrible accent/voice that sounds like they both have a cold and are sucking a boiled sweet at the same time. It was doing my head in after only 20min

Terrible listen

If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?

I don't think anyone could enjoy the dreadful narrator.

Would you ever listen to anything by Terra Harmony again?

Possibly, with a different narrator

Would you be willing to try another one of Emily Gittelman’s performances?

NEVER. She has a grating whiny nasal voice and appears not to be able to read in sentences. There are pauses in odd places and the wrong words in sentences are emphasised, making it difficult to understand. I was unable to finish listening to this as the narrator's voice and style irritated me so much. I would rate this as less than one star for the performance but the system doesn't permit that!

What character would you cut from Akasha?

I can't say as I didn't manage to finish due to the grating narration

Everything grates

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Could have done without our heroine acting like an airheaded hormonal teen in a Mills & Boone novel. A new narrator would have helped but could not save this book.

What could Terra Harmony have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

The love sick scenes did nothing but annoy and felt like they were only there to pad out the story. I only ever felt like rooting for our heroine when she had been captured, but soon lost interest again when she failed to learn and continued to follow her love interest like a little puppy dog, failing to question anything even when the so called good guys clearly showed they were only slightly better then the bad guy.I've only got half way through the second book, so maybe it will improve, but I'm not sure I can force myself to go the whole way.

What didn’t you like about Emily Gittelman’s performance?

Unfortunately I'm English and therefore found the nasally American drawl really annoying.

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The premise of the story definitely held promise, if only she had built on that and made the main character intelligent and a little stronger.

awful narrator makes this hard work

If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?

As a word of warning I really wished I had read these books instead of listening to them.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I like the idea of these stories. The concept of elementals and how magic is linked to earth's ecological system, where actions do have quite serious repercussions to the earth is a very good idea.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Words cannot describe what a poor choice the narrator is. I whole heartedly agree with previous reviews her voice has two modes whiny or grating. Her telling is flat and you lose all empathy with the characters. I could only listen to this in small bursts as I just couldn't deal with her voice and I felt completely impersonal telling, I am still trying to persevere. This could have been a lovely audiobook if it was read with someone with more passion and less grating voice than a blocked drain
