Not a jolly japer

Well-written but so dark it was almost funny. The writer leaves no holes barred in her series of appalling events. Enough suspense to keep me listening to the end however. Saved in part by the excellent narrator.

very entertaining performance

Eilidh Beaton made the book interesting, emotional and absorbing. I loved her voice. The story was a little slow but the performance makes up for that in spades.

very dark

I confess that my family laugh at me for this. I like light and dark in stories. Not just relentless dark. if you are the same, do not read this book. I am not sure that any version of terrible is left out. I don't normally write reviews and thought I should warn you. If, however, like other members of my family, hou can take darkness layered upon darkness, then go for it.

way too disturbing to be enjoyable

highly disliked the callous characters and the descriptive nature of torturing and murdering, especially children
