About this listen

A beautiful June day in the Yorkshire Dales, and a group of children are spending the last of their half-term freedom swimming in the river near Hindswell Woods. But the idyll is shattered by their discovery of a man's body, hanging from a tree. DI Annie Cabott soon discovers he is Mark Hardcastle, the well-liked and successful set designer for the Eastvale Theatre's current production of Othello. Everything points to suicide, and Annie is mystified. Why would such a man want to take his own life?

Then Annie's investigation leads to another shattering discovery, and DCI Alan Banks is called back from the idyllic weekend he had planned with his new girlfriend. Banks soon finds himself plunged into a shadow-world where nothing is what it seems, where secrets and deceit are the norm, and where murder is seen as the solution to a problem. The deeper he digs the more he discovers that the monster he has awakened will extend its deadly reach to his friends and family.

Nobody is safe.

This was a good example of the inspector banks books-not necessarily the best but good to read as part of the series.
Did not like the narrators performance-it was more like a simple reading of the book as he hardly varied the voices-but at least it was not distracting voice so ok.

Good book which fits well in the series

Good story with some nice twists and turns.
Completely poor narration. Awful voice characterisations and over dramatic pauses and slow recital.
Only way it was even partially acceptable was to to play it a faster speed 1.2 or 1.5

Shame about the narration

One good idea for plot- really interesting. But tedious characters to my mind and mundane writing. This is my first Peter Robinson. Maybe I'm missing something!

Unsatisfying

Awful reader, ruined story for me. The voice reading this story was expressionless and dull. Needs life and vigour to be more enjoyable

Unhappy listener

Not sure I should review this before finishing this audible but all the Inspector Banks books I have read and listened to are just an absolute joy.

As with any series it is always best to start at Book 1, but in the case of Banks it doesn't matter so much as Peter Robinson cross references.

I first listened to him courtesy of my local library on disc, subsequently in hardback, then audible and also kindle, so I have enjoyed his works through all medias, although I do not look at unabridged as I think you loose a lot ......

All the Colours of Darkness Peter obinson

Interesting, convoluted and one can only hope that it's fiction. Just saying those words makes me feel like an innocent abroad!!

Fiction - One Hopes!!

I didn’t think this storyline was as good as usual. It appeared a bit “Wild West” at times. The narration wasn’t great. Some of the voices were grating.

Disappointing
