Eigentlich ist Alma auf dem Weg zu ihrer Oma, als sich im Zug eine Frau namens Mrs Newton zu ihr setzt. Das Seltsamste an ihr sind nicht die unzähligen Taschenuhren und Wecker, sondern dass sie ihr erklärt, Alma könne durch die Zeit reisen. Und nicht nur das: Sie soll eine Landkarte der Zeit beschützen, um zu verhindern, dass die Zeit aus den Fugen gerät. Alma glaubt ihr kein Wort. Doch dann wird die Frau vor ihren Augen entführt, und Alma stürzt in ein Abenteuer, das sie zum Start der Mondrakete, zum ersten Flug der Brüder Wright und zur Eröffnung des Eiffelturms bringt. Und sie muss sich vorsehen, denn abtrünnige Zeitläufer sind ihr auf den Fersen und wollen die Landkarte an sich reißen!
