About this listen

A village of secrets finds its past lies waiting.

When mourners gather in the village of Lower Gladdock, the grave is found to be already occupied. The victim is soon linked to a tragedy that tore the village apart five years ago and is handed over to the Bexford police to solve.

Detective Sergeant Guy Poole is hoping to put his traumatic past behind him and settle into his new station at Bexford. Now history is threatening to raise its head again, and he has a murder case to contend with.

Detective Inspector Sam Brock has a new recruit to take under his wing, and he's determined this one isn't going to die. As if that wasn't enough of a headache, his wife is coming home and may be on the verge of discovering the lie he's been telling her.

Newly paired duo Brock and Poole must track down the killer before more lives are lost.

what a twist.

enjoyed most of the story, but dislike the fact that the author feels the need to have as nasty a character as Anderson.

Loved this book and narration was excellent. Hope mrs brock becomes pregnant and pools Dad doesn’t cause too much aggro

A Little Bit Tame

I quite enjoyed this because of the characterisations, but maybe there needs to be some sensible additions for the sake of clarifying the plot. Begun well, concertinaed in the last part in a somewhat juvenile fashion.

Good cosy mystery

I enjoyed this book. The narrator was very clear and the story had good pace. I liked the subplots and the characters were likeable. A very good audiobook.

Great story, shame it's so short

I did enjoy this one, a good and complicated mystery that for me, should have gone on for at last another 3 hours, with a more complex investigation, we're not kids after all, we need a little more to excite our imagination and I was left wondering where Brock's flash of inspiration had come from, although if you read below the answer may become clear.

Narrator is, I am sorry to say, a bit bland, he does not hold my attention at I had to rewind on many an occasion, but he's 'easy listening' which is more than can be said for many narrators so 3 stars for the narration.

Yes this is worth listening to, not sure it's worth paying a whole credit for though. A compilation might be the answer if that ever happens.

An enjoyable listen with one glaring exception.....

Only one thing spoils this good audiobook for me is that each time Sgt Poole was called "Sir" I groaned inwardly because UK Police Sgts are NEVER EVER called Sir.... although I knew a few of them who would have revelled in that title! Sergeant Sarge or Skipper is the norm.

Superb

Narration really gave this story life. Good plot, believable characters. A story well told with enough dropped tidbits of character background to entice mee into wanting to hear book 2.
