About this listen
Mistakes were made.
The future is uncertain. And Time doesn't care.
As the story ends, we'll finally learn how it started.
The world is breaking apart. Only the combined willpower of Hades and Hel can save it. But Love has other plans.
Meanwhile, the gods need to deal with the outcomes of their choices; everyone else needs to survive them.
And Psyche must finally face her greatest foe. Can free will cheat fate, or is fate the consequence of free will?
©2022 Susana Imaginário (P)2022 Susana ImaginárioYou really need to have experienced the three previous books in the series (Wyrd Gods, The Dharkan and Nephilim Hex) to more fully appreciate the interplay between the Norse, Greek and Egyptian pantheons and mythologies as well as humanoids. The interplay of science fiction (represented by technology) and science fantasy (represented by all the magic and special powers) is also beautifully handled and we finally learn the true nature of the Nephilim and origin of many of the races and some of the myths.
Susana Imaginario has sustained the promise of her strong debut and the story arcs started all those thousands of words ago are mostly resolved and yield satisfaction. However, some scenes involve multiple significant characters and this dialogue can be difficult to follow. This is where I give some friendly advice to use the immersive reading experience by listening whilst reading the book. This book is not easy to get into as time and dimension changes are involved. They are all relevant to the tale and understanding the meanings of the changing relationships, allegiances and priorities. Sarah Kempton has given another spectacular performance in bringing the wide range of characters and their identities to life. Listening to her helps with knowing who is speaking as well as their emotional state. Susana Imaginario has done a lot of showing in her writing, but Sarah amplifies this in her intelligent telling.
Another marker of cleverness by the author is the choice of title. It's not easy to spell and can be hard to say, but is a perfect title giving you a clue as to the nature of this book and the underlying structure of the series.
I don't want to spoil your enjoyment so will promise you many twists and switching of who is the puppet and who the controller as well as your choice in the significance of the ending. I found it all very satisfying and will regret this being the last we hear of these mythologies, manufactured races and adversaries. I think the ending leaves the door open on that hope.
Wonderful, clever resolutions to earlier books
