And the women caught at the heart of it.

Praise for Anatomy of a Scandal:

'Magnificent' Marian Keyes

'Intelligent, subtle and thought-provoking' Louise Candlish

'The definition of a page-turner' Elizabeth Day

'Almost impossible to put down' Louise O’Neill

'Once the trial of MP James Whitehouse starts, you could not have prised the book from hands for love or money' Jake Kerridge, Sunday Express

'An absolute masterpiece – prepare to be very impressed' heat

'A lot of reviews claim that a novel has them ‘hooked from the start’ – but with this story, it’s painfully true' Grazia

‘A timely thriller about marriage, but also about power, who wields it, and how that affects who we believe’ Stylist

‘Well-written, pacy and full of twists and turns’ Independent

'New Netflix series lays bare the toxic privilege of those in power… Friend’s performance is eerily plausible. His Whitehouse is charismatic and smoothly persuasive, his eloquence barely concealing his arrogance… Equally strong is Miller as Sophie, who is forced for the first time to examine her own cosseted way of life and the principles she has sacrificed to preserve it' Financial Times

'This drama will immediately entire fans of House of Cards, Apple Tree Yard and The Undoing…. Miller is excellent as the elegant, brittle Sophie, who is forced to watch her beautifully organised house fall out of order, the heart of a drama that manages to feel both aesthetically glossy and morally gritty' Sunday Times Culture

'Feels like it could have been ripped from the headlines' Evening Standard

'A cautionary tale for our times' Daily Telegraph

A great book

I really enjoyed this book. Well written with a good pace. I was in tune with the characters. This book would make a great mini series with the likes of Netflix, BBC, Amazon provided it is made by British Director!

A chilling story

A chilling story of sexual abuse, its consequences throughout life and entitlement of politicians. Thought the story was great, however in my opinion the performance could be better. Sometimes in dialogues it was hard to follow who was the character speaking.

Bitter and Gloomy

Wallowing in self pity. One and two dimensional characters. Hard to like any of them except for the protagonist who is meant to be quite dreadful! The parallels are so obvious as to be banal. I kept listening hoping some depth would emerge. It didn’t. I wasted a credit.

Great book. Gripping.

Slightly irked and disappointed at the Belfast accent.

Apart from that I loved every minute.

Phenomenal

Absolutely brilliant.
Loved every minute of it. What a superb story and writer.
I hope this gets made into a tv programme. Now at least I can get on with some work I’ve been putting off whilst listening to it!

A good, it not great, book

I did enjoy this book but did feel it was lacking in substance. A case made from few details and I felt a ‘meal’ made of it. It is well written with good narration ( with the exception of Ali who sounded much too young and whose voice was very irritating) but I felt it lacked depth and there was too much exaggeration of the facts. I was also disappointed by the ending which I felt, although believable, was disappointing and frankly very unrewarding. I did like the development of Sophie’s character and would have like it this would have continued , perhaps with more of a focus on retribution. I do give it 3.5 rounded up to 4stars but feel it was a long way from a 5 star novel from my perspective.

Gripping story

I really enjoyed this book. It was quite similar to a tv programme I had watched a few years ago. The story theme may not appeal to all as it was quite gritty. Good book to listen to on a long journey as it kept you interested.
