About this listen

Amrit Kaur (The Sex Lives of College Girls) delivers a stellar performance in a brand-new enemies-to-lovers hockey romance by Sonya Lalli, the acclaimed author of The Matchmaker’s List and A Holly Jolly Diwali.

Hockey coach Ashley Jaswal doesn't take nonsense from anyone … except her overbearing and superstitious family. They believe she's a good luck charm for her brother Jas, the newest Vancouver Canucks draft pick, forcing Ash to attend all his games as he rises up the NHL ranks, sacrificing her personal life (not that she has one—who decided hockey season needed to be 10 months long anyway?).

Ash also clashes with Jas’s teammate, Canucks captain Devin Snyder. Devin is yet another arrogant hockey bro—and admitted total babe—who is fresh off a scandalous break-up with a global pop-star. But she soon finds the ice melts between them, and they share an unexpected chemistry. As Ash wrestles with her family’s demands, her brother’s career and her feelings for Devin, will she find a way to take a risk and make her own luck? Or will she puck this up?

This captivating Audible Original is an essential listen for fans of sports romance, strong heroines, sizzling chemistry and the diversity within the hockey community.

Fun with some good messages

I enjoyed learning more about hockey and the challenges of being an Asian female, whilst listening to a fun tale of love and friendship

Interesting and Funny

Loved her fight and honestly about daughter still being treated differently and not as good as their brothers in some families. Unfortunately this is applying to some cultures even in 2024. Honest and fun the plot is catching you quite quickly. A good book to listen while doing house chores.

What a lovely narrator

The narrator got me settled from the start. Something about the cadence of her voice I found soothing. Now the story. loved it too, being able to relate to cultures that treat women like second class citizens. without any spoilers, this was a good read

Lovely listen

Good little free book. It's great listening to a book from another culture and from their perspective.

Great book with great narration

I am a similar age to the main character and from the same faith/ culture. I really enjoyed the storyline and it really resonated with me. With there was an epilogue as i got really invested in the main character. Really enjoyed the writing and will look at other books from this author

Surprised

I usually sliten to dark/fantasy romance but thought I'd listen to something else for a change. I was pleasantly surprised that this novel had me gripped from the start. Brilliantly narrated and the story was refreshing, and ash taking back her power was just everything!

Fun and yet fascinating

This was an included with audible title, had some good reviews so what’s not to like? Except it’s way better than that. It’s really good. The narrator was great, really got the delivery spot on (although voice for little brother wasn’t the best) but the others were fabulous.

I loved understanding the background of the characters, with zero lecturing, just lived experience. Lots of humour, lots of pathos, and the main character is a charm. Although, sheesh, talk about under appreciated! But the whole story was enjoyable and memorable. I’ll definitely be reading more from the author.

Funny and sweet!

I absolutely loved this story. It introduces a cultural narrative I'm unfamiliar with in a playful yet informative way. The characters are loveable, mostly, but you warm to the rest that develop!

Light, fun and I may or may not have shouted YES in the middle of a supermarket, but not for the reasons you'd think!

Good to hear another perspective on the usual trope

I loved that this was written from both a strong female and POC perspective. It stood out from all the other hockey romances because of it although it had many of the same elements. I felt I could relate better to the FMC as she described the feeling of not only familial pressure but also cultural pressure.

I struggled with the narrators male voices, Jas in particular. He felt like someone mumbling through a clenched jaw. It did somewhat suit the character but the tension didn’t make it relaxing to listen to. Luckily there wasn’t too much of his dialogue. That being said I’ve listened to male narrators do even worse female voices and overall this performance was excellent.
