Fantastic insight into life, and death!

Evie’s book was my first ever audible - I work in the funeral service, it had me laughing, crying and made my heart both happy and sad. Everyone deserves a last ‘hurrah’ whether they have the funds or not! It’s so important their life is marked one last time. Thank you for writing and it was even better to actually meet you! K x

loved it. Not only is it showing what goes into this but it also provides a look into death in a more interesting light.

Wonderful!

A book about death but filled with stories full of compassion. Stories of those who are sometimes lost to society and family. Stories of lives lived and needing to be told. The author relates to each of her ‘ charges’ in a way which they may not have had when the were alive. This book looks at death in a way which actually I’d not thought about before and gave me incites into things that need to be done surrounding my own death. Well written, narrated and so so interesting.

amazing stories about unknown people

this is a humourous and thoughtful tale of council funded burials. I am so impressed with how well "Evie" takes care of everyone and the effort she puts into each case. some genuinely moving tales.
I hope there will be a sequel.

Everyone should read/hear this book - Brilliant

Expertly written and beautifully read. How I wish I could have had a job like hers. Excellent and could recommend it to anyone. The bonus being is was FREE! I would have willingly paid for this one! Will look for this author again. Thank you for writing it and thank you for doing such a wonderful job of work.

Surprisingly sad & laugh out loud all at once

I only bought this book because it was in the buy one get one free sale, but it turned out to be one of the best books I have ever ‘read’. It’s really well put together. There’s one short part in the recording that is repeated, otherwise no sound issues.

Struck several chords

Evie's discoveries about the people she's been responsible for, after their lonely deaths, were fascinating. As a retired celebrant who's had to do some detective work myself, I was impressed by how she's gone further than strictly necessary to ensure that they'd be remembered as the complex human beings they were, and not just unclaimed bodies. the last chapter, about the unidentified corpse, is very moving.

Moving, quirky, funny and uplifting

This book is just wonderful. One minute it's heartachingly sad, the next moment it's laugh-out-loud funny. It's a wonder how life-affirming death and funerals can be. Excellent narration by the author.
My favourite book of the year.

Amazing and heartwarming x

This book is really heartfelt for so many and it is of course a great read and listen. (I have done both).

In general it’s a book of compassion, care, kindness to a loved one who may not have any family, Evie is someone who is so dedicated to ensuring that everyone has a dignified goodbye, and that they are not on their own.

When called in by local authorities, she becomes a detective, housekeeper, admin assistant and more importantly a family member to help with arrangements for that goodbye if that person has no one.

Her celebrant ensures that the loved one, has a loving and respectful goodbye, and is not on their own, Evie will attended, purchase flowers and become a surrogate family member for the deceased , to give that farewell with love and respect.

The book is well worth a read /listen too and if you are a celebrant it’s a no brainier and will help in your celebrant journey and understanding that’s side of a death and goodbye.

It’s a job I would love to do, but it isn’t a job you can apply for, and if you do get to do it (and after you read this your understand) it’s an honour and privilege.

I am a celebrant and have used it in my studies and modules as it’s like a go too.

I have had the absolute pleasure to meet Evie who is so lovely and her chats about the book is amazing, she is so loving and passionate about her families.

(Note to self must get my booked signed though I use it so much for reference and research might need to but another !!!)
