About this listen

Colin

Being rejected by family hurt like hell, but I kept my head high, left my toxic relatives behind, and moved across the country to Gaynor Beach CA. Luckily, I have great furry company. My bulldog puppy, Widget, was dumped on me for not meeting my parents' ridiculously high standards either, so we're comforting each other. With a nice rental house, and a new job, Widget and I were ready for a fresh start, until I got a devastating diagnosis. I can't take care of Widget properly while trying to save my own life, and I expect a long hard road. So I'll have to break both our hearts and put her up for adoption to someone who can, for her sake. Right?

James

I’ve wanted to get a pet forever, but my family circumstances didn’t allow it. Now I’m away from my masses of relatives, and on my own, I’m ready to take on a furry companion. My friend, a guy who never says no to an animal in need, introduces me to Colin and his beautiful puppy Widget. I’m horrified Colin feels he needs to give her up just because he's sick. I’m happy to take Widget as a temporary foster. I’m also happy to offer support to the new guy in town who is so very alone in a time of crisis. Helping someone in need comes naturally to me. But what if that temporary help turns into me wanting a forever relationship? This is a gay romance slow-burn novel about new beginnings, found family, unconditional love, and a puppy named Widget. This mid-angst story has a guaranteed happily ever after.

Fabulous Story & Listen🎧Consuming & Heartwarming!

This is a wonderful start to an amazing new series written by Gabbi Grey, a series set in Gaynor Beach, one of my favorite places to visit and spend time in. The first book is James’ and Colin’s story, and it is a story that captivates your attention and tugs at your heartstrings the entire time. James’ friend Arthur is an avid animal rescuer and they discuss fostering pets, though James is thinking more on the line of kittens, thinking they would be easier. Colin and his parent’s rejected dog, Chambord, leave New York and his toxic family behind and head to Gaynor Beach for a fresh start. Chambord was a good cross country companion, despite having some health issues, something Colin has experience with, and he realizes that caring for all of Chambord’s needs may be more than he could handle so after he arrives at Gaynor Beach he talks to an animal rescuer, Arthur, about giving her up for adoption to a family who can take care of all her needs. Arthur, knowing Colin only has Chambord’s best interest in heart, comes up with another idea, having someone help him and he knows the perfect person for the job, James. James, who is caring and has a heart of gold, was the perfect solution for Colin and his French Bulldog, who they wind up renaming to a more suitable name, Widget. I thought Colin and James were great together and for each other, and for Widget, too. I loved all the layers of this story and how it all played out, with the perfect balance of drama, heartwarming moments, heartfelt emotions, and a slow burn but so worth the wait romance. As always, Gabbi Grey’s writing, plot and world building are incredible, as are the character growth and development. Thank you for another wonderful story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 Michael Ferraiuolo is the perfect narrator to bring these characters to life and does some with a complete understanding of who he is portraying, giving each a voice that is fitting. I love how he is a natural in each role, sounding believable and just as I imagined they would sound. He nails it in both lead roles, grasping every aspect of their personalities, James’s sweet and caring side and Colin’s insecurities as he battles his health issues. And he was just as amazing performing the roles of the secondary/side characters too. He set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling them all. Ferraiuolo is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another amazing listen.
