About this listen

When Van Tudor returns to his childhood home, he inherits more than the family farm.

His grandfather used to tell him fantastic stories of spacemen and monsters, princesses and galactic knights. Little did Van realize, the old man's tales were more than fiction; they were real.

Hidden beneath the old barn, Van’s legacy is waiting: a starship, not of this world. With his combat AI, an android bird named Perry, Van takes his first steps into the wider galaxy. He soon finds that space is far busier and more dangerous than he could have ever conceived.

Destiny is calling. His grandfather's legacy awaits.

Embark on the adventure of a lifetime with USA Today best-selling author J.N. Chaney and Terry Maggert in this galactic quest for glory.

Well with the listen

It provides a good start and grounding for the new series to expand on. This first book I enjoyed; though I did feel it was leaning more towards young adult rather than adult.
I will read the next book.

I Enjoyed IT - A good start for the Series to come.

Novel way of getting the story 'into space', with an interesting back story. All the male characters sounded the same, as did all female characters.

Great story

dislikes; the method of gaining the ship seems too easy but I even like that it comes with so many catches.

Back yard space ship delivered exactly as per the tittle. Like most sci fi stories the plot steps well outside improbable. But that’s fine with me. The story uses some tried and tested structures such as complete a mission and earn enough for ship upgrades and finding the perfect space girlfriend. Made me wish I’d inherited a space ship!

Lots of action. Definitely kept my interest.

Only in the first hour or so of this story but it's very obvious the story is a rip off the space adventure/shooter video game genre started by Elite - you suddenly get a fairly weak space ship and have to do missions/ fight / trade to gain credits to upgrade so not looking promising. However the characters seem fairly engaging so not hopeless.
I spent a credit the sequel, so I guess that's an endorsement.

Start modeled after the video game genre that st
