About this listen
Random House presents the audiobook edition of Bad Apple by Zoje Stage, read by Gabra Zackman.
Seven-year-old Hanna has never spoken a word.
She is a sweet but silent angel in the eyes of her adoring father, but with Mummy, things are different. Suzette loves her daughter but difficulties with babysitters and teachers over the years have put a strain on their relationship and her sanity.
Then Hanna speaks for the first time, to Suzette alone, and what she says is chilling.
Suzette wants to write it off as a scary joke, but she’s becoming increasingly frightened by Hanna's little games. Could she be in danger from her own child? And when it's her word against her daughter's, can she make her husband believe her?
Bad Apple is a blazing debut novel about a perfect-looking family – where sweetness can be deceptive.
Fans of BEHIND HER EYES, DAUGHTER or GOOD ME, BAD ME will love this story of dark domestic suspense.

Want a sequel
Hope there is a sequel coming as without it, the ending is incomplete. It was very good but left me wanting more.

Twisted and addictive
Sooooo damn good.... the story of a 'demonic' 7 year old girl who is determined to get rid of her 'mommy' so she can have Daddy all to herself ...very dark in parts and it gets you thinking that maybe your own kids aren't so bad after all lol;) Narrator is sensational and this is a story that will stay with me for a long time.

Not sure...
I can’t decide about this book. The characters are so annoying - the mother is pathetic and the father wants a slap. I mean, why not just install hidden cameras? Another annoying factor is the Swedish accent. I listened until the end but it felt like a strain to do so.

Original plot line attracted my attention
The first thing I enjoyed about this one, is the originality of the plot line. A mentally ill child, hating her mother. But by the end, I thought she wasn't ill, she knew exactly what she was doing. There were a few times I didn't sympathise with Susette, like when she was jealous of Alex for his relationship with Hannah, or when she was in self pity mode. But there was also frustration with Alex later on, when he refused to accept what was happening, only realising after it was too late. I didn't feel sorry for Hannah at any stage, because I didn't believe she was ill after a while. I also liked, and had a lot of respect for Hannah's Therapist. Written really well, I like how it switches between mother and daughter throughout. Never read a book with that plot before, but would certainly read another.

This book will hook you!
I was hooked on this book straight away - it wastes no time getting right into the juicy story. Only slight thing was I was expecting something else for the ending, and in the run up to it I felt a little underwhelmed. Still highly recommended.

Yikes
Once again Zoje Stage does not disappoint in terms of digging into the meat of everyday horror. This reads like a parent's worst nightmare scenario for a 'bad seed'. This is a beautifully crafted, but tense work, full of anguish and frustration. You're never really sure of what will happen next, and that's what's required to identify with the main protagonist. The narration is good and supports the flow of the work very well.
