Summary

We are constantly bombarded with inaccurate, contradictory and sometimes misleading information - until now.

Ben Goldacre masterfully dismantles the dubious science behind some of the great drug trials, court cases, and missed opportunities of our time. He also shows us the fascinating story of how we know what we know, and gives us the tools to uncover bad science for ourselves.

at last some sense

a brilliant insight into the way society and the media are attempting to dumb down the populace to make us more malleable. Thanks Doc 👍

Weird science and wacky woo

What made the experience of listening to Bad Science the most enjoyable?

Goldacre's take on this is spot on and he is right to challenge bad science as it is wasting a lot of people's time and worse in some cases, causing a health hazard as with MMR. The narration of the book is good and the voiceover becomes more appealing as the book moves on. I thought that too many points were laboured and some points a little trivial including the PR stuff pushed on reporters. How many people take notice of those silly little 8 out of 10 stories that take up a couple of column inches in a newspaper? Maybe some people do but I think people have generally more intelligence than to take such quirky stories seriously. Many chapters could have been shortened. After it's been established that someone is obviously a quack there's no need to keep hammering the point home. Overall it's an informative read, especially the serious stuff on the pharmacutical industry. Well worth a listen!

Bad Science, Great Book

Any additional comments?

So okay, I am what our American cousins would call a Skeptic, so if your not a logical, science based person what are you doing reading this book? It made me laugh on occasion, it made me angry at times as well. I thoroughly enjoyed this well explained and well researched book. Completed in two listens it kept me outside walking and away from the television for a couple of days. Will definitely listen again.

Excellent read

Brilliant narration with accents to emphasise points.

The book starts with alternative medicine and ends with science . The book mostly focus’s on the research aspects as to why statements are false. Very eye opening and although so many things put into the negative the author is in no way bias .
Brilliant read loved it

wow. loved it.

I am not good at reading (dyslexia) so have recently started to listen (Audible) have always loved science and now (41) am going to start to find more science and challenging literature to listen too.
thank you for this book it has SO helped me convey things I have often suspected in a more evidence based argumentative (polite chat with friends) discussion with friends about mass historical belief and media rugby (grab story and run) policy and human nature.

A great audiobook detailing the failings in proper scientific studies that I am sure still exists today.

A highly engrossing listen with an entertaining performer who does his best to mimic the various accents of the people mentioned in the book. The only complaint I would have is with the audio balancing, as listening to it on my iPhone (which doesn't have a great speaker to begin with anyway) results in the reader's "esses" becoming quite high-pitched and somewhat jarring much akin to nails on a blackboard. Fortunately, the issue is averted using earphones, but I would still regard that as a small setback in what should be and is an absolute recommendation.

Everyone in the world needs to know this stuff!

Hripping, fascinating, and beautifully read. Rupert Farley's narration is perfect and Ben Goldacre's witty wisdom is compelling. This is the perfect introduction to science and skepticism.
