About this listen

Team Grendel is back, and this time, they have double the monster sharks and double the trouble as a drug cartel and the Mexican Navy are both ready to blow the Beowulf III out of the water!

When a top secret, undercover mission goes wrong for one of the company's operatives, Ballantine must call on Team Grendel and the crew of the Beowulf III to take down a drug lord and stop Southern California from being overrun by a new substance more addictive and deadly than any drug on the planet. But things are never that simple as Team Grendel find they are under siege by cloned Megalodon sharks that developed a taste for the new substance, sending the monsters on a drug fueled rampage of bloody violence along the Baja Mexico coastline!

Blood is in the water, and the feeding frenzy is on!

I've quickly fell in love with this series, good fun and excellent humour have made them hard to put down.

I enjoy this series of books. Not to be taken too seriously, just pure entertainment with great characters and great banter.

Just pure fun

Firstly and most importantly, this isn't a shark story.

No idea why it makes any attempt to pretend otherwise. If you intend to listen to this hoping for a megalodon or other shark story then look elsewhere. This and its previous episode has more to do with drugs and boat incursions than anything else. The shark or sharks play such a little part in the story that they could easily be edited out and the story wouldn't be any better or worse for it.
There are glimpses of potential but they are hidden between over extended conversation with no movement in the plot or sidetracks away more than needed.
To be brutally honest, it feels as though the author has watched a couple of navy seal style shows, picked up a couple of terms and slotted them into an average story. There are a couple of semi interesting characters but they feel swallowed up in a cast of generic cookie cutter creations. Ballentine is one I feel lacks so much. I understand what the author is trying to do with him but it feels more like he doesn't know what he wants him for next so keeps him vague. Thorne is another that just doesn't feel believable. with the background written for him, his reactions and demeanor would be different and as written makes him seem empty and underwritten.

Was hoping for something but this fell short of the mark.

Not what you think!

I bought the first two books as blind buys given my fondness for aquatic horror. The first book was awful and this one doubles down on everything that was wrong with it. The story is stupid on a level I could not have imagined. The action is dull, as are the characters. The dialogue is wince-inducing. The constant attempts at humour fall flat every single time and rob the action of any tension whatsoever. The only positive thing I can say is that the narration is much better than the book deserves.

It seems I'll listen to anything to pass the time while doing the household chores.

Excruciatingly bad
