En 1984, un peligroso gángster lionés estaba en la cárcel Modelo de Barcelona. Una noche, una mujer lo llamó desde la calle. Cuando se asomó a la ventana enrejada, desde el edificio de enfrente, le dispararon con un fusil de matar elefantes.
Este hecho, insólito en la Barcelona de entonces, combinado con la evidencia de la prevaricación de un par de jueces que habían detenido a mafiosos italianos, destapó la existencia de bandas organizadas en España. Ése es el punto de partida de esta novela donde se resumía la sensación de descubrir que el oasis catalán y el paraíso español no eran más que coberturas de tramas negras asfixiantes.
