About this listen

One distressing night in Ramsgate, Elizabeth Bennet impulsively offers Georgiana Darcy aid. Scandalous rumors soon surround the ladies and Fitzwilliam Darcy, forcing Elizabeth and Darcy, strangers to each other, to marry.

Darcy despises everything about his marriage to the daughter of an insignificant country gentleman with vulgar relations. Georgiana, humiliated after a near-elopement with George Wickham and full of Darcy pride, hates her new sister. Their family look upon Elizabeth with suspicion and do little to hide their sentiments.

Separated from those who love her, Elizabeth is desperate to prove herself to her new family despite their disdain. Just as she loses all hope, Darcy learns to want her good opinion. He will have to face his prejudices and uncover the depths Georgiana’s misdeeds to earn it, and Elizabeth will have to learn to trust him if she is to ever to find happiness being Mrs. Darcy.

Excellent story and reading. Very similar to Jane Austen style.
Have listened several times and enjoyed.

Great listen.

The narrator was good but not perfect. The story was well written and the plot engaging.

4.5 Stars

I enjoyed this overall, but perhaps Elizabeth's misery was dwelt on rather too long. The use of language was good, with only a few Americanisms and a rather glaring anachronism - grey squirrels were introduced in the 1890's, not 1812, when the only squirrels in Britain were reds.
The narration by Harry Frost was good, once I became used to the rather jerky delivery, which jarred rather at first.
A solid 4/5.

Interesting variation

Harry Frost did a great job of narrating & the story was compelling. I had been putting this one to the bottom of the pile because I dislike angst but I thoroughly enjoyed the story.

Enjoyed every minute

Read it and listened to this audio book multiple times. My favourite P&P variation so far. At times repetitive writing but full of emotions.

My favourite P&P variation!

Lots of angst but also lots of romance in an amazing book. This is definitely a favourite, I read it twice and listening to the audiobook is just a wonderful way to rediscover it all over again.

Great variation, I will be delving into the others by this author. I got the butterflies feeling you get when reading a great falling in love story which I was surprised about given I ‘knew’ these characters already.

Not a fan of this narrators halting cadence, it became less obvious as I listened but when I remembered it, it was obvious again so was clearly present all the way through. Not bad enough to avoid this story though.

Loved the long story

See above re what I liked. Sometimes a little far-fetched but not to the extent that it spoils the pleasure and enjoyment of the tale

An intriguing tale beautifully written and read

An outstanding variation, one of the best I've ever read. The plot is carefully thought-out, the characters developed with restraint and the writing is a delight. Harry Frost's narration is very pleasant to listen to.
