About this listen

For more than three decades, Ellen Datlow has been at the center of horror. Bringing you the most frightening and terrifying stories, Datlow always has her finger on the pulse of what horror readers crave. Now, with the tenth volume of the series, Datlow is back again to bring you the stories that will keep you up at night

Included in the pages of The Best Horror of the Year have been such illustrious writers as Neil Gaiman, Kim Stanley Robinson, Stephen King, Linda Nagata, Laird Barron, and many others.

With each passing year, science, technology, and the march of time shine light into the craggy corners of the universe, making the fears of an earlier generation seem quaint. But this light creates its own shadows. The Best Horror of the Year chronicles these shifting shadows. It is a catalog of terror, fear, and unpleasantness as articulated by today's most challenging and exciting writers.

I like the general concept of this collection, except for the last story, I enjoyed most of them. I like the fact that there is not just one reader and actually like gender ppropriate readers. I am not sure why "Fear of review inflation" and mixed readers should elicitone star comments...Review de-flation?

I found this collection very enjoyable, I am sort of disturbed by the demands no one give it positive reviews.

A very solid selection. As with any 'best of', mileage will vary from story to story and personal taste, but collected together this is a good snapshot of modern horror.

Good variety, exploring different versions of horror

Some very boring storiea that I could not focus on. cant complain too much for a free book, but I am glad that it has finished.

Good mix of stories

As I said in the title, I think a lot of positive reviews of audiobooks (and their paper counterparts, also videogames, movies, ecc) are made by people paid to do them.
Always follow the negative ones, they are more honest.
That said this audiobook is bad, skip it.

Please, don't give credit to positive reviews

I was unable to focus on any of the stories because each one was randomly performed in a new and ridiculous accent. I would be genuinely surprised if any one of these voice actors is performing in their natural British or Aussie accent. The effect of this was to make the stories incomprehensible and boring but also to fill me with an inexplicable simmering rage. It’s not campy. It’s not fun. I can’t believe I’ve paid to listen to 16 hours of borderline offensive accent impressions. The authors should sue.

Absurdly and needlessly ruined by horribly attempted accents.

I honestly expected more from this anthology but listening to someone revel down in Hostel-esque kind of torture fetishes killed it for me.

Torture porn.
