About this listen

Actor Kelsey Grammer, best known for his roles in the TV sitcoms Cheers and Frasier, delivers Bitter Brew, a compelling mystery featuring Detective Bill Walsh, an upstate cop in the quiet, rural town of Beatriceville, 200 miles north of New York City, who suspects foul play in the death of millionaire city transplant Jonathan Kimball, even though the evidence points to suicide, not murder.

Between the four grown daughters he adores - even if they make him crazy - his complicated relationship with his ex, and his annoying boss, probing into a death that most have deemed a suicide is the last headache Bill needs. But the inexorable desire for justice and to do his job lead him to delve into many town secrets that most in Beatriceville citizens would prefer to keep unexamined.

Filled with colorful characters and with a riveting pace, Bitter Brew will keep listeners guessing until the unexpected denouement.

Exactly what you want from a Detective Novel

It ticked every box for me. Reminded me of the old Fletch books which i also loved. And Grammer's performance was everything you could have wanted.

Just Ok

For a first book not a bad effort: Pros: started off promisingly, good narration, liked the characters. just a nice length...not too long.

Cons; Just too cheesy!

Easy listening

I knew Kelsey Grammer would be good at narrating and was curious at how good his book would be. It was easy listening and enjoyable but nothing to write hone about...

Dear representatives of Mr Grammer,

I would like to register my disgust that I started this novel and it was so funny that I stayed up until 3am to finish it in one go. It’s a hate crime.

It’s not that the plot is original (it isn’t anything new) but the way this book is written and performed makes it laugh out loud funny and I really did care about the characters.

We’re still in lockdown, please pass my thanks on to everyone involved in the release of this title for giving me the best laugh I’ve had in ages.

I would receive this novel to anyone. It is funny (I might have mentioned that), observant and engaging.

Thank you,
Em

Beautiful narration dreadful book

I was so surprised at how awful this book is - dreadful dialogue, wooden characterisation, hokey all round.

I could only get a few chapters in and just couldn't get past how awful it was. So I'm returning it. It's possible that it may change utterly 10 chapters in and the writing quality improve.

He reads it beautifully of course, but even his rich tones couldn't hide the book-of-the-month writing quality. Returned.
