Andrew Taylor is the author of a number of critically acclaimed crime novels, including the Roth Trilogy (ITV's Fallen Angel) and The American Boy, his best-selling historical novel which was a Richard and Judy Book Club selection. Good story, enjoyed the characters and the setting. Really set the scene of how the class society was in the 30s. Narration was fab, and the ending, did not see that coming.

I was not sure how I would like it, but decided to give try. A beautifully crafted tale, painting London of the 1930s as the background. Class, snobbery and the undercurrent of fascist threat that was sweeping Europe echoes today's government in some alarming ways.

The main protagonists have real lives and struggles that people could relate to even now. The mystery story is fascinating and will keep you hooked.

It felt like it was set in the 1890s rather than the 1930s. I did enjoy a lot of this book but was disappointed by the ending. I thought the narration was very good
