About this listen
Christy Pickering's 18-year-old daughter is dating Jerry Bethlehem, a man twice her age. Christy sensed something shady and sinister about him, so she hired a private investigator to look into his past. But the PI isn't returning her calls. Will Jack find out why?
Jack learns there's a very good reason for the unreturned calls: The PI is dead, victim of a bizarre water-torture murder.
As Jack delves into Jerry Bethlehem's past, he finds connections between Bethlehem and the Creighton Institute. The Institute, a government-funded facility, is researching a newly discovered and frightening variation on human DNA. Jack learns that Bethlehem is not the man he pretends to be.
Who - and what - Jerry Bethlehem really is will have a devastating effect on Jack's life and future.
And as the bodies pile up, Jack finds another piece of the puzzle about his own identity and why he's been drafted into a cosmic shadow war.

Dick Hill is terrible. It sounds as if he is walking around the room, coming in and out of range of the microphone or something. Sometimes he just straight up mumbles and you have no idea what he is saying. His character portrayals are awful too. He makes Jack sound like someone from a cheesy black and white gangster movie. All of his characters sound pretty much the same, with the exception of Abe, who sounds like someone doing a fake father Christmas impersonation. It is hard to convey just how bad a narrator he is. I have no idea how they ever let this leave the recording studio!!!
Now... as for the story? It is a crying shame because it is a 5/5 story. It has all the great elements you'd expect from a repairman Jack novel. Just a crying shame it has been ruined by a poor narration.
Is it still worth listening to? Yes... but only because I NEED to complete the story. I would recommend buying the book instead, if you have the time (which I do not).
Good story, ruined by an inept narrator

I’m really finding it hard stopping myself just going to the end to find out what happens because it’s getting painful listening to this .
The same person is doing the next in the series, what a complete let down.
Struggling…..

For some reason he changes his speaking volume all the time and mumbles other lines.
