About this listen

John Mayall has played with them all: Eric Clapton, Peter Green, Jack Bruce, Mick Fleetwood, Mick Taylor, Andy Fraser, and the list goes on. Now in his 80s, John continues to tour all over the world and perform to sold-out crowds. With an incredible blues career spanning over 50 years, rightly earning him the title the "Godfather of British Blues", John shares his experiences and encounters in what will be a must-listen autobiography for any true blues fans.

I knew all already from reading other sources. Here is John's personal remembrance of his history.

A very personal account, demonstrating how he and his and music matured. Great!!!
Hopefully a continuation of his biography to follow.

Loved his music for 45 years

interesting story...but found the narrator to be lacking anything resembling the blues...far too posh and well heeled.Big Disappointment That John (or Gary ) didn't lend their gruff vocals to underscore this important legacy.

Blue Break

A good one for the 1960s music nerds out there.
He also tells a good social history story of life in UK from 1940s to early 1960s.

A great bit of British blues history

A blues purist throughout his career. Great book and I’m sure has many stories to tell that weren’t necessarily elaborated on here. Bring on volume ll

Never seemed to sell out

Thought I’d enjoy this more, but this is a man who, as one of the greats, has played with many, but we don’t get to hear much. Nor, if like me, you are interested in Laurel Canyon, does the book match the title what the title suggests, But the most disappointing aspect of this book is Mr Mayall’s attitude to women and relationships in general. I know this was the 60s and the early 70s but the casual misogyny woven into this book paints a pretty grim picture. No doubt, despite the many self-confessed weak albums, he is very talented but - not that he would be bothered I’m sure - I didn’t grow into the fan I thought I might. Stuart

Not much of a fan

Very enjoyable and informative.

I also really liked the narration.

John Mayall comes across as a true gent and doesn't really dish the dirt on anybody.

Eager to have the follow up
