About this listen

On a cold winter evening in a secluded fjord in Iceland, a neighbour visits the house of a family that has not been seen in a week. No one comes to the door when he knocks. After breaking down the back door, his worst fears are realised. Their home is now a horrific crime scene.

Policeman Týr and forensic pathologist Iðunn are called to the house to investigate. As the case advances, harrowing secrets about the family are revealed. Along with a young policeman Karó, the investigative team quickly realise that the case forces them to face their own suppressed past and opens a Pandora's box to much darker crimes.

Can't Run, Can't Hide is a masterclass in tension from one of the world's finest crime writers.

Iceland always seemed such a peaceful, caring country! Where do these stories come from? Imagination?

A horrific tale

fantastic narrators for a really excellent book but be aware that this is quite bloody and unpleasant if you're looking to avoid that.

goriest Sigurdardottir yet

The story, though grim in parts, was a very impressive read. Very interesting characterisation and a plot full of twists and surprising. It is also more upsetting when children as victims are involved but the story had a very moral conclusion. A very worthwhile read.

Very absorbing

I really enjoyed listening to this book. The narration was perfect and the story was very interesting.
I enjoyed the switch in narrators before and after the crime.

Thrilling

I was hoping there might have been an interesting investigation into the crime but instead it’s all about the family and au pair who get murdered. So there is no hope, just a depressing inevitability about the ending. The writer seems keen on elaborating on their miserable existence before their deaths and put you through the moments of their deaths. Not an enjoyable book.

Depressing and slow
