About this listen

Winner of the 2016 Audie Mystery Award

Now a major BBC drama as part of the Cormoran Strike series.

When a mysterious package is delivered to Robin Ellacott, she is horrified to discover that it contains a woman's severed leg.

Her boss, private detective Cormoran Strike, is less surprised but no less alarmed. There are four people from his past whom he thinks could be responsible - and Strike knows that any one of them is capable of sustained and unspeakable brutality.

With the police focusing on the one suspect Strike is increasingly sure is not the perpetrator, he and Robin take matters into their own hands and delve into the dark and twisted worlds of the other three men. But as more horrendous acts occur, time is running out for the two of them....

A fiendishly clever mystery with unexpected twists around every corner, Career of Evil is also a gripping story of a man and a woman at a crossroads in their personal and professional lives. You will not be able to switch this audiobook off.

Couldn't put it down but I had to sleep. Can't wait for the next book will she wont she? Oh and I have grown a fan of Blue Oyster Cult. Thank you

Worth the wait!!!

Would you consider the audio edition of Career of Evil to be better than the print version?

Personally yes, because it would have taken me twice as long to read the print version (not a short book, as always with J.K. Rowling)! I enjoyed the narration which picked up seamlessly from the two previous Strike audiobooks.

What did you like best about this story?

The evolving relationship between Strike and Robin, and learning more about Robin's past.

Have you listened to any of Robert Glenister’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I have listened to his recordings of the two previous Galbraith books, and this picks up seamlessly from those two, with Glenister using the same intonations I've become used to. Can't imagine anyone else voicing Strike (although I'm sure this is destined for a TV series one day!).

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It was a book that made me want to hear the next chapter immediately, but owing to the length of the whole book there's no way I could have listened to it all at once - and I wouldn't want to, because you want to absorb what you've heard so far and try to guess what will happen next, before continuing.

Any additional comments?

Heard 'Robert Galbraith' being interviewed and was pleased to hear there will be several more installments in the series, as I'm keen to see where the main characters will go from here.

Great characterisation and plotting; rushed ending

Would you consider the audio edition of Career of Evil to be better than the print version?

Haven't read the print edition but the narration is excellent - all the characters are conveyed very well

Who was your favorite character and why?

Shanker - he's a really good fun addition to the Strike & Ellacott team and I hope we see more of him in future books

Which scene did you most enjoy?

the last - you'll understand why when you get there

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

again the last scene - I don't want to spoil it so shan't say more

Any additional comments?

The twisty turny nature of the plot kept us guessing right till the end, and Strike & Robin's realtionship is brilliant and getting better with each passing book.

Best Strike novel yet

Absolutely loved it... Couldn't stop listening until it was finished. J K Rowling is a genius & Robert Glenister is brilliant. Gritty & compelling

Fantastic

I love this series, the characters have so much depth and the horror of the storyline is balanced beautifully by humour.

Another diamond book

excellent

As the third instalment of Potter took a turn for the dark, this JK series followed suit. And in the same way that Azkaban showed a notable increase in quality, so did this. Great story, dark themes. Bit of a cheesy ending, but let's see how it plays out.

Darkest Strike novel, yet

This is a good read. I have given 5 stars because the book can't help JK's political stance.

Great book, Shame about the author's Transphobia
