About this listen
Editor reviews
English author William Hope Hodgson first published his spooky supernatural Carnacki the Ghost Finder serial detective stories in 1910. One of these tales, Carnacki the Ghost Finder: Gateway of the Monster, narrated with creepy macabre delight by Britain's David Ian Davies, eerily tells of Carnacki being confronted with an angry and powerful spirit within the haunted halls of an old mansion that was also the site of three brutal murders. It ends up being one long night for the both of them. Fans of Sherlock Holmes will certainly appreciate.

Ok story
This recording contains just one of the Carnacki stories - The Gateway of the Monster. It was interesting, but not actually scary. The narrator performs the character of Carnacki in a strong accent, so check out the sample to see if you like it before downloading it. Personally, I found the accent distracting.

Gateway of the Monster
A spirited reading. Note that this is only one of the Carnacki stories. There are another eight in my 1991 paperback. My cat disliked this story. Interesting that in print the butler is called Peters, his surname. But he is called Peter in this reading.

Absolutely loved the performance. howevet,
*A SPOILER ALERT*
the story entails a death of a cat, presented almost as a result of an experiment.
Made me nauseous. Didn't like. Therefore just three stars.

absolutely failed to grab my attention
I didn't enjoy the narration and I couldn't get into the story because of the terrible voices the narrator chose. I found my mind wondering and I lost interest long before the end of the story.
