About this listen
Only available from Audible, a gripping psychological thriller from the author of the DCI Matilda Darke crime series. Perfect for fans of Stuart MacBride, Mark Billingham and Val McDermid.
A copycat killer is on the loose but who really has blood on their hands?
For years, Aidan Cullen has dreamed of becoming a successful crime writer. When his hard work finally pays off and his first book is published, what should have been a night of celebration unravels into an evening of horror. Left for dead after a brutal attack, trauma leaves him paranoid and reclusive, and he retreats to the remote countryside with only his dog Nanook for company. With the world kept at arm’s length, he begins to feel safe. That is, until a woman is murdered at the end of his road.
With the police asking questions and a stalker knocking on his door, Aidan’s peace is completely shattered. And when the murderer strikes again, he starts to see a pattern in the killings; a pattern only he can recognise. Is the killer sending him a message or is his mind playing tricks on him? When you can’t trust yourself, nobody is safe.

Some bad grammar but a great story
Some bits of bad grammar that are frustrating - “Nanook lays in front of the hearth” - but overall great. The solution is guessable but still very well done. Excellent narration.

Something a little different
Enjoyed this, thought it was a little different. Didn’t realise the outcome until quite near the end. Didn’t really like the main character much but still felt compelled to read on

Great Story
Thoroughly enjoyable story but let down by probably the worst Liverpool accent I have ever heard from a narrator.

I did not see that coming
I usually work out the plot by at least midway through.
But on this occasion it wasn’t until towards the last few chapters and a one-liner that was said during a conversation that I worked it out.
Of you ‘blink’ you will not hear it.
Really enjoyed listening to this.
Michael Wood - another great book.

Good but I had figured out the "twist" from the first chapter.
overall ok. the narration was good but, if the main character is Irish... get someone Irish to narrate. the Liverpool accent was painful.
I had read the comments about there being a great twist at the end.
I figured out the twist from the first few pages and was more and more reassured I was right as it progressed. A few elements I didn't guess but the big one I did it was kind of disappointing that it was so transparent.
but overall ok. an easy listen
