About this listen
A forbidden love...
Lucas Kemp's twin sister died last year. He's put aside his mourning clothes, but not his heartache. If Lucas ever needed a friend, it's now - and who should walk in his door but Lieutenant Thomas Matlock...
Lucas and Tom are more than just best friends; they've been in love with each other for years. In love with each other - and pretending not to know it.
But this time, Tom's not going to ignore the attraction between them. This time, he's going to push the issue.
He's going to teach Lucas how to laugh again - and he's going to take Lucas as his lover...
Note: Contains mature themes. A hot Regency male-male romance with sensual love scenes.

Surprisingly gripping
After 3 VERY erotic scenes within the first ten minutes or so, I thought I’d be horribly disappointed. However, I have found myself hooked! I was after something quite specific.. an 18th century/regency historical gay romance with a perfect storyline, and just the right balance of erotic and deeply poetic scenes. I have to say I am very impressed. One thing I would say is that I wish there were more detail into particular scenes/characters, such as Lou’s visit to his family, the day to day details of the visit. Granted, I am 12 chapters in.. so there might be some more detail to come.

Gorgeous!
I have enjoyed the previous Baleful Godmother stories, but was a bit wary after reading some of the other reviews. However, I needn't have worried as this is just as delightful as the other stories, while being appropriate to a male-male pairing. I'd happily read any other such pairings the author cares to write. Brava!

Fantastic
I have to say that this audible book was like no other that I have listened too before. My type of listening is about romance in the eighteen hundred period stories, and it took me a while to get into this one, but I did find it very tender and loving in a different sort of way. I loved this book and found the narrator described the content very well indeed.

Quite a surprise
This is the first audiobook I have listened to about a same sex couple. It gave me a surprising insight about how similar this romance was to heyrosexual couples but which combined with the awful stigma and legal punishment of those times must have been traumatic.
My only slight problemcwas that there was not a back story like previous Baleful Godmother books

Really enjoyable period drama
I only picked this story because of the narrator, whose work I enjoy.
However, I was pleasantly surprised by the story - set in the 1800’s it had a good historical feel about it and a very passionate plot - I enjoyed it from start to finish
I will definitely look at other books by this author
